Concerned Christians(not to be confused with an apolegetics ministry in Arizona also known as "Concerned Christians") is a group of at least 78 adults and children, led by Monte Kim Miller. Until recently, Miller was a marketing executive for Proctor and Gambles. In June 1996, Miller announced on his radio broadcast that he speaks for God. He predicted that an unspecified disaster would wipe Denver, CO off the map on October 10, 1998. His followers believe that he is one of the two witnesses mentioned in Revelation 11. Miller predicted his own death and that of his co-prophet to occur in December 1999 in Jerusalem. He also predicted he would be resurrected three days after his death. He teaches that his group are the only true Christians, and that salvation can only be earned by repenting and following him. Neither the Denver Apocalypse or the Jerusalem prophecy came true. However, about 78 of the group sold some of their possessions, empited out their homes, and left Denver near the end of September 1998. Some relocated to Jerusalem. On January 3, 1999, Israeli police raided two suburban-style homes in the Mevasseret Zion suburb, in the western outskirts of Jerusalem. They detained eight adults and six children who belonged to the group. They had been living quietly. financing themselves on savings and on donations from the US. Brigadier general Elihu Ben-Onn, an Israeli police spokesperson alleged that the cult members planned to carry out violent and extreme acts in the streets of Jerusalem at the end of 1999 which would begin a process that would bring about the "Second Coming" of Jesus. Ironically, Miller was one of the main voices in the West in the anti-cult movement before founding this cult. While part of the anti-cult movment Miller attacked feminist spirituality, New Age trends in Evangelical Christianity, alternative medicine, Coalition on Revival, Southern Baptists, the Assemblies of God, the Roman Catholic Church, and the Word-Faith movement. The fourteen members of the group that were found in Israel were brought back to the United States. The whereabouts of the rest of the group, including Miller, are unknown. |
