Falun Dafa

Falun Dafa (The practice of the wheel of the Great Law) is the spiritual movment that practices Falun Gong(The Practice of the wheel of the dharma).  The Dharma is the workings of natural law, the impermanent and interdependent nature of all life.  The Falun dafa movment is one tradition with Xulian, which is a conglomoration of ancient Chinese methods to cultivate mind and body as a means of keeping fit and healing oneself.  Xulian is now commonly referred to as Qigong(the cultivation of universal life energy).  The movement is a subcult that is attributed to both Taoism and Buddhism.  The movement is attributed to both these because they incorporate both Buddhist and Taoist principles but differ from both groups on the essential dogma of the two resepctive religions.  These principles are combined with exercise and body cultivation.  The Falun Dafa is taught as a path which is far more than the practice of Qigong.  it is seen as a way of life.  The movement waas founded by Li Hongzhi, who made it public in 1992.  Li says that the secrets of the movement were passed from master to student until he made it public.  It claims a membership of 70 million in China and 30 million in the rest of the world.  The Falun Dafa has as its main symbol a circular logo which is composed of a counterclockwise-pointing swastika.  It is surrounded by four smaller swastikas, two red/blue Yin/Yang symbols, and two red/black.  It is viewed as a minuature model of the universe.  Some advanced practitioners claimed to have seen the symbol revolving.  The members believe that when the symbol rotates clockwise, it can automatically absorb energy from the universe.  While rotating counterclockwise, it can give off energy.  An internal clockwise rotation offers salvation to oneself while an external rotation offers salvation to others.  Falun Dafa use "Zhuan Falun" and "China Falun Gong" as the important texts of the cult.  The cult is an unorganized movement with no set form of worship or rituals.  It consist of five exercises that promote one's cultivation.  Three of the exercises involve physical movements and maneuvers while th other two exercises require remaining still for an extended period of time.
