The House of Yahweh is a destructive doomsday cult. The group was founded by Jacob Hawkins. Haekins is an American who went to Israel in 1967 to work on a kibbutz. Whilte there, he heard of an archaeological discovery of a 1st century building that had "House of Yahweh" (in Hebrew) over the entrance. He believed that this was the name of a group specially selected in ancient times by God. He returned to the US and build a sanctuary in Odessa, TX with that name. members woshipped Yahweh (Elohim) and Yeshua, his son. They hold to the traditional Jewish Sabbath on Saturdays They celebrated the main Jewish festivals(Passover, Shavuot, Feast of Tabernacles). They reject Christmas, Easter, and Halloween as pagan inventions. They believe Yeshua was born in the spring time when the shepherds are watching their flock at night during the birthing season. They taight that Yeshua's blood cleanses believers from sin, but only if they adhere to the 10 commandments. Members tithe thier earnings. The group's leadership in Odessa was from 12 disciples and 70 elders. They published a periodical: The Prophetic Watchman. They don't keep records of membership but in the 1980's reported congregations in US, Israel, India, South Africa, West Africa, Burma, Australia, and Belgium. Following the death of their leader, the Odessa group became defunct. However, there is another sect of the group that exists in Abilene, TX. This group is led by Jacob's brother, Yisrayl Hawkins. The brothers disagreed over the proper name of God and therefore split. Yisrayl is the high priest and is assisted by elders, male and female deacons. They celebrate the various Jewish feast days specified in Leviticus 23. They also celebrate two additional feasts: "Yahshua's Memorial" and "Last Great Day". They have a periodical called the Prophetic Word. In 1987, they reported seven congregations served by 35 ministers. They have about 100 followers living at their headquarters. Yisrayl Hawkins has wqritten a number of books and articles about Biblical prophecy. In 1983, he correctly predicted that the Middle East Peace Accord would be signed in 1993. He has written a book "Can we Avoid the Next Holocaust?" about massively disruptive events in the immediate future. other books include: The Book of Yahweh:The Holy Scriptures; Devil Worship:The Shocking Facts; The Sabbath:Every Question Answered; The Mark of the Beast-Volume 1 and 2;Unveiling Satan:Her True Identity Revealed; The Two Witnesses; Did Yahshua Messiah Pre-exist?; Deceptions Concerning Yahweh's Calendar of Events; The Lost Faith of the Apostles and Prophets:History and Prophecy. The group believes that Satan is a female who has been in indirect control of all the world's governments and religions by appointing all political and religious leaders, Catholicism and Protestantism are evil faith groups symbolized by the two horns of the beast mentioned in Revelation 13:11, Yahsua Messiah (Jesus Christ) and Yahweh(God) are two seperate beings and the Trinity does not exist, Yisrayl and his brother Jacob are the two witnesses in Revelation 11. They place maor emphasis on an end of the world scenario which was believed to begin in October 1998. Their latest prophecy in September 1999, is geared to the 7 year Middle East Peace Plan which was signed on September 13, 1993. They expected that when the peace plan started again in 2000 that the world would experience the worst time of trouble ever. They stress specifically Isaiah 24, which says that God will make the earth a wasteland and will scatter its inhabitants. The land will be utterly emptied and plundered. By mid-2001, they predict that 80 percent of the world's population will have been killed as result of a nuclear war and no rain would fall for 1260 days. |
