How is this page designed?
This page is designed to give one a good academic overview of all the major religions, sects, and cults in society. I have done my best to give each religion, cult, and sect from an unbiased perspective. My bias probably does manage to come out in places on this page, but no one can hide their bias completely. I have stated that I am a devout Christian, yet I do not use this page to push Christianity. Though in my other pages including my website, I very strongly push the Christian faith. In order to understand this page, you need to understand answers to the following questions.
1) What is a religion? A religion is any movement that provides answeres to questions such as what is the meaning of life? Where did I come from? Where amm I going? What must I do to get there?
2) What is a sect? a sect is any movement within a particular religion that agrees with the mainstream doctrine of that religion but fdiffers in some minor points that they feel are essential to the religion's practice and polity.
3) What is a cult? A cult is any movement which claims to be a part of a certain religion but differs with that religion in either some or all of its mainstream essential points. The word cult is not used just to refer to destructive doomsday groups like the People's Temple, but also to hroups like Mormons, Nicheren Shoshu Buddhism and other groups that for the time being are not destructive.
