II Chronicles |
||||
II Chronciles basically is a retelling of the books I Kings and II Kings. This book focuses attention on the reign of Solomon for the first few chapters and the wealth he accumulated. It also talks about threats from Shishak of Egypt who came against Israel several times, but never succeeded in his campaign to overtake the land. The book adds several things that are not mentioned in the books of the Kings. Particularly to some of the kings, it adds that some of the good kings did not seek God in the latter part of their lives and records that some of the bad kings repented at the end of their life. In its attention on Solomon, it tells of how he prayed for wisdom for God and he was granted all else that he attained because of all things that he could have asked God, he asked for wisdom. The book also records Solomon's petition to God for when the people sin and humble themselves. Chapter seven, verse fourteen is a verse that applies ot the Christian if they obey it and humble themselves seeking after the face of God. We know that II Chronicles was written during the time of the return of the exiles from Babylon because of the reference to Cyrus of Persia. |
