II John |
||||
II John was written to some lady. John apparently writes this to a lady concerning her children and how he is overjoyed to hear they are walking in the truth. This book was written shortly after I John. John speaks clearly of the command of God to walk in live. John references the Gnostics again in this epistle when he speaks of those who deny that Christ came in the flesh. John makes clear in this epistle by his statement not to run ahead of the teaching of Christ that sanctification is a gradual process which can only be performed by God. John also warns this lady that whoever doe not have the teaching of Christ should not be allowed into the lady's house. Some question whether or not that applies to today. We do need to be careful of whom we let into our homes, but we also need to offer hospitatlity. This case was in the Roman Empire where the Romans would create all kinds of plots to ctach people practicing the Christian faith. John closes out the letter by saying that soon he hopes to meet with the lady face to face and visit her. |
