Jehovah's Witnesses were started up by Charles Taze Russell and Joseph F. Rutherford in 1879. The movement is a cult within Christianity. Jehovah's Witnesses believe in one God, but they differ from the traditional biblical interpretation of the early church by denying the Trinity. Jehovah's Witnesses believe that while in heaven Jesus was the archangel Michael and therefore was a created being. Jehovah's Witnesses view the Holy Spirit as an impersonal force at work. The teaching of the Jehovah's Witnesses state that only 144,000 people will be saved. This is accomplished by door to door witnessing and for over twenty years this number has ben reached. They believe that those who are not saved will remian here for 1000 years after the coming of Christ. THey call this group "The Great Crowd." Their main writings are the magazines Watchtower, Awake, Reasoning from, the Scripture, You can live forever in Paradise on Earth. As their scriptures, the Jehovah's Witnesses use the Bible but only in their own version which is the New World Translation. In the twentieth century, there have been four dates prophesied for the return of Christ by the Jehovah's Witnesses. All four times, the evnts failed. Jehovah's Witnesses claim that he simply returned in spirit. They also believe that his resurrection was merely just a resurrection of spirit and not of his body. |
