Pentecostalism is one of the four major sects within Christianity. Pentecostals are known for a modernistic type of service which is conducted to appeal to all people. They use charismatic music to appeal to the people. They provide more of a focus on the power of Divine healing, the gifts in I Corinthians 12, and the Christian experience. They provide a relam of experience that is active in the church. Most Pentecostals believe the Word takes precedence over anything else. yet, there are some new groups that are focusing their attention elsewhere. particulrly a cult which is an offspring of Pentecostalism, called the Word-Faith Movement which has a seperate link on this site. Many Pentecostal movements give rise to Esoteric Revelation. They tend to focus on the voice within the individual. They refer to that voice as the Holy Spirit. This description does not apply to all Pentecostals. However, it does apply to a growing portion of the group. This growing portion of the group is starting to focus more on the relam of experience than they are on the traditional church ideas of Repentance and salvation. For the time being, the mainline of Pentecostals will be referred to as a sect within Christianity. However, if the trend that values experience over the Word of God wins out in this movement, then it will have to be referred to as a cult. Whether or not this trend wins out is something that is yet to be seen. The majority of Pentecostal lay members are true sincere Christians. However, they are the ones who are most susceptible to the Word-Faith Movement and they follow the teachings and the leaders of the movement without the awareness that this movement is actually a cult. |
