Scientology was founded in 1954 by Dr. L. Ron Hubbard. Scientologists believe that each individual has an immortal spirit with unlimited powers over the universe. Scientologists view redemption as being free from reincarnation. They believe in reincarnation but, view it as what is hindering the human race. The goal for followers of Scientology is to get clear of engrams so that they may become an operating thetan. A thetan is one who has overcome the powers of the universe because he has realized he is an immortal spirit. Scientologists use as their scriptures "Dianetics, the Modern Science of Mental Health," The Way to Happiness, and other writings by L. Ron Hubbard. Though they do not define God, they reject the biblical view of God. The headquarters for Scientology is now located in Los Angeles, California. It is the most popular religion among actors in Hollywood and is the richest church in the world.
