Spiritualism is a rebirth of many ancient groups that once existed with beliefs similar to those found within this movement. The modern Spiritualism movement was found by Katie and Margaret Fox in Hydesville, New York in 1848. The group now operates in many small groups and has no official headquarters. The movement views God as infinite intelligence. They view him as an impersonal power that is controlling the universe. They view Jesus as a medium and a prophet and teach that he is now a spirit in the spirit world. Knowledge and good works are the agents which Spiritualists believe should be implored in order to reach the afterlife. The afterlife is the spirit world where one's progresses on from one world to another. Heaven and Hell are viewed as states of mind within the movement. Some believe in reincarnation. The movement is one of the many cults within Christianity. They use as their scripturess the Spiritualist Manual, the Aquarian Gospel of Jesus the Christ, Oahpse, and Selected passages from the Bible. Churches in the movement hold seances, psychic demonstrations, and implore spirit messages from the dead as sermons in the service. They also have prophecies and use Quija boards. |
