The Unification Church was founded by Sun Myung Moon in South Korea is 1954. The moevment's current headquarters is now located in New York City. The followers of the movement are called Moonies. Moonies believe that God is both positive and negative in what he does. They teach that he is not omniscient. They are one of the various cults that exist within Christianity. They teach that God created the universe out of himself, therefore the universe comprises the whole body of God. They further teach that God needs man in order to remain content. They reject the traditional Christian view of the Trinity. They view Jesus as a perfect man and not as God at all. They teach that he was the son of Zechariah and deny the traditional Christian belief of the virgin birth. The Moonies view the ultimate mission of Jesus as uniting Jews behind him, marrying the perfect bride, and building a permanent family. However, they teach that he failed in this mission. They deny the physcial resurrection of Christ. They teach that the second coming of Christ is fulfilled through the coming of Sun Myung Moon, who is superior to Jesus and will finish the mission that Jesus failed to accomplish. Moonies view the Holy Spirit as a feminie entity who works with Jesus in the spirit world to bring people to Sun Myung Moon. Thye teach that after death, one goes into the spirit world and there is no resurrection. The agent through which one enters into the spirit world is by leading people to follow Sun Myung Moon. Obedience to Moon and his wife is the way to elinate sin and to accomplish perfection. Couples married by Moon and his wife drink a special wine contating 21 ingredients with the blood of Moon and his wife as one of the ingredients. The movement is known for multiracial marriages which are exceedingly common. An average of 30,000 per year. Moonies teach that eventually everyone will be saved, even Satan. They believe that Moon is King of Kings, Lord of Lords, and the Lamb of God. They are also known for their acceptance of contact with dead spirits. As their scriptures and key writings the Moonies use the Divine Principle, the Outline of the Divine Principle, Level four writings, and selected passages from the Bible. All of the above books mentioned except for the Bible were written by Moon. |
