Mitsukake's given name was Myoujuan. He is a member of the suzaku seven,
sworn to protect the priestess of suzaku. He is a dignified and quiet
man, who tends to be reserved. He is a very calm mannered and selfless man.
One of the eldest of the suzaku warriors, he seems almost like a father
figure. When they first meet him, Mitsukake is strangely reclusive, choosing
only the company of cats, however, when he joins the other warriors, he starts
enjoying the companionship of people again. He still keeps a cat companion
though, which is named Shouka, after his lost love. His ambition in life was
always to become a doctor in order to help people. He shows caring and genuine
concern for others, and seems to have a talent for encouragement of others. Years ago, he was living happily in the little town and had a love named Shouka. Shouka had the power to bring the dead back to life. There was much sickness in the town back then, as the town was infected with a plague they named the Shekoki disease. One day, Mitsukake was called away to help a person in another town. While he was gone, Shouka contracted the disease, and died before Mitsukake could return to heal her. The loss of his love whom he couldn't save drove him to become a recluse, living on the outskirts of town. He was so hurt by what happened, he turned his back on both his healing ambition and humanity. Later, when Miaka arrives, Mitsukake is finds Shouka had been possessed by the Shekoki demon in her determination to hold out until his return. He destroys the demon, freeing her soul. It seems to comfort him when Miaka tells him that he was finally able to save her. Mitsukake has the power to heal wounds or sicknesses. He has also displayed the power to banish demons (such as the shekoki demon). Mitsukake's Kanji of Suzaku can be found on his hand and its meaning is sadness. |
