Lady of the Lake |
When Arthur was born, Merlin placed him in the care of Sir Ector. Through boyhood Arthur learned the ways of chivalry and knighthood. At a tournament one day Arthur pulls the mysterious sword from the stone, and became the King of England. While on a campaign, Excalibur was given to Arthur by the Lady of the Lake. On a different campaign, Arthur married Guinevere. They made their home at the castle of Camelot. Many knights came to live at Camelot, and to be members of the Order of the Round Table.
With the many quests the knights brought to the Order, came the Quest for the Holy Grail. The cup of Christ was never found, but it was seen by a few of the knights. Rumors around Camelot were usually about love scandals. The biggest love scandal involved the most gallant knight Lancelot, and Queen Guinevere. This rumor was told to Arthur by several members of his court, but he never believed them. The rumor was finally proven when a relative of King Arthur’s caught Guinevere and Lancelot sleeping together. Due to pressure by the court, Arthur decided that the two lovers should be punished. Lancelot escaped before the King had the chance to seize him. He also rescued Guinevere before she was burned on the pyre. Lancelot took her to his castle at Joyous Garde. Arthur eventually got his Queen back. Arthur then led a campaign which followed Lancelot into France. King Arthur left his nephew Modred in charge of his kingdom while he was away. Modred seized the throne claiming that the king had fallen in battle. He then tried to take Guinevere’s hand in marriage. Arthur returned to Britain to battle for his wife and title. After a few battles were fought, Modred and Arthur decided to start peace talks. Both parties had armed men present at the first of these talks. A battle commenced when one man drew his sword to slay a snake that threatened his life. In this battle Modred mortally wounded King Arthur. Arthur then got his revenge by severing Modred’s head. Before Arthur perished, he had Bevidere return Excalibur to the Lady of the Lake. Arthur was then taken to his final resting place at the Isle of Avalon. Now you can talk to The Lady of the Lake.
