VFL FOOTBALL

Welcome to my web page dedicated to VFL Football. Not so much the current VFL, more the prior to 1990 (when it changed to the AFL). Football was certainly a much better sport in those days. It was when football was a tough sport. Sure it wasn't as fast as it is today, but it was a lot more physical. And a lot of that toughness has certainly left the game now. There are too many reports, too many rules introduced to soften the game, to protect the stars. What a load of crap!

It was also a time when the players were a lot tougher. The players were more skilful and were not completely over-paid as they are now. Players played outdoors on fields in all kinds of weather, on grounds in Melbourne's suburbs. Now all but two of the grounds once used, are disbanded by the AFL. Definitely a bad move.

And most importantly, it was a time when the game was for the people. Ticket prices were always affordable, the games were played throughout Melbourne and there were ONLY Melbourne based teams so there was no room for bias.

Colonial Stadium is the AFL (and Channel 7's) new home for football. Tickets must be booked, the stadium can only seat a mere 50,000 people, poor views from many areas around the ground, and with around 14,000 seats reserved for sponsors, that leaves only 36,000 seats for the fans. And then all of those are reserved for members of participating clubs which means no longer can a fan simply roll up to the ground on the day and expect to see a game of football.

Complete crap is the current AFL, which is why I have dedicated this page to the VFL.

Here you will find the current fixture and results for this VFL season. There's also club histories, great players, reviews of past matches, extensive information on past football grounds, and hopefully by the end of it all, a media gallery.

Also, and most importantly, please go to the VFL Football Videos section and check out my list of VFL games for trade. Please, if you have ANY VFL football games on video tape EMAIL ME. I am very desperate to build the collection I currently have, and channel 7 and channel 2 have been far less than helpful. Please check it out!
