The ballet of the National Opera-Sofia is one the
threshold of its eighth decade. On the 22nd of February 1928, it presented the
first night of a ballet performance alone. Delibe’s “Coppelia” in the
choreographic vision of soloist, choreographer, and pedagogue Anastas Petrov.
Since that day the history of Bulgarian Ballet began. From its very first steps
in managed to blend the traditions of the Russian classical school with the
German style of free expression. Even in the present days the National Opera
tends to preserve and develop its classical repertoire and, in the same time, to
promote modern ballet-productions.
It is not a secret that the stars of Bulgarian Ballet are part of the National
Opera and Ballet troupe. The major talents of Bulgarian Ballet have been given
ovation not only in their home-country, but in many opera-theatres all over the
world during their successful tours in Italy, France, Spain, India, Egypt, ex
Czechoslovakia, Russia, Romania, Greece, Germany, Austria, Switzerland and etc
