Newly educated, Eallan questions some of Fakharu's employ and investigates their leads, including the scene of Lady Ameral's disappearance on the seashore. Three Sirens are ruled to be the immediate abductors. Andoran and Eallan take dinner in Fakharu's dining hall as Andoran make many attempts to win the favor of Soultsteel (maiden of Fakharu), some are even successful. Akhol wanders outside to the camp Akiko and Anemone's crew have set up to join them for food and drink. Akiko continues to create and dodges inquiry of her new marking. VR Mission 13:
"Use the Cardboard Box to avoid detection." |
6th of
Resplendent Water, 776 |
Team A returns to the ship with the unconcious
Shinjiro and a fretting Alenya immediatly takes command.
Shinjiro is bandaged up and notes of disinformation are compared. Akhol and Masa return to the ship with information about the recent Siren sightings, and the ship sets sail. The next morning Akhol, Andoran, Eallan, and Shinjiro disembark on the Isle of Broken Masks (with cloaks). The stone fortress atop the mountain seems like the best place to hide a hostage and course is set. Hiding from some important spirit's regal carraige descending the mountain's winding path, the group is divided as Akhol climbs the rock face the rest of the way, leaving the others to ascend the path. At the rear of the fortress Akhol climbs farther and enters through one of many windows. Rounding the fortress in time to see him dissappear, the others follow (injured Shinjiro carrying injured Andoran). In stealth mode, the cirle begins exploring the fortress, Shinjiro, particularly, begins tailing the local spirits. Akhol, soon joined by Eallan and Andoran, witnesses three Sirens speaking with the "Lady" of the house. Appearantly the Sirens had lost their treasure and were now in hiding here under her protection. Poor things. The Sirens, however, also have a means of cloaking and dissappear. Shinjiro follows the lord of the castle to his chambers and witnesses him retrieving a strange key, then tails him to a secret chamber in one of the first towers the circle searched where Lady Ameral is held unconcsious. When the lord returns to his room Shinjiro, in amazing acts of larceny, swipes the key, leaps out the window, breaks into the holding chamber, frees Lady Ameral (handing her to Eallan still unconcsious who flees the fortress immediately), jumps back in the chamber windo, returns the key and escapes unnoticed, all while avoiding some half dozen almost undetectable traps along the way. WOW! Play of the day, right there! While the others are retrieving Ameral Akhol stands guard at the bottom of the stairs. Something almost indistinguishable catches his eye, turning a distant corner, Akhol pursues, abandoning post. Led to the roof, Akhol comes face to face with something very, VERY powerful, and very, very dead. "She" suggests he leave and vanishes without a trace as an unnatural storm quickly brews and a panic overtakes the inhabitants of the fortress. Shinjiro and Andoran find Akhol on the roof, heated words are exchanged, Andoran gets socked, they depart. Descending the mountain the storm is in full gail and they all see an enourmous rune pressing down the ocean. The storm passes as quickly as it came. On the boat Lady Ameral is awakened and introduced to everyone. She recognizes Anemone and Alenya. Eallan questions Alenya about the rune, but in vain. Alenya does, however, wish to study it further. They set course for Fakharu's spire. |

The circle returns to Fakharu's spire and the
lord greets them in human form.
Fakharu asks everyone to join him for a banquet later. Akhol heads outside to find Akiko has constructed a small village (Shanty Town) out of the camp of Anemone's crew. Eallan takes a room to get some rest. Soulsteel joins the rest of the circle for a "pre-banquet feast." Andoran wastes no time picking up picking up. Making a great display of being the kind sensitive man, Andoran quickly earns the wrath of everyone at the table and suffers a chicken wing right between the eyes from even Masa. Amelie, once again, has eyes bigger than her stomach and suffers greatly. Fakharu summons those not at the feast for the banquet. Akiko and Vhen are invited, though Vhen is missing. At the banquet, Akhol proves his normal tactless self, while Andoran actually manages to impress Fakharu. Fakharu and Ameral give their eternal thanks to the circle and bestow upon them their rewards: -Anemone is given his new ship and granted a year and a day's use of the Gem of Correspondance at dinner. -Andoran, in private, trades the Ring of an Ancient King for a Crown of Absolute Order. -Shinjiro, taken to the armory, is gifted with a suit of light armor especially effective against the Fey. -Eallan, inquiring about the Eye of Amorphia, is told about the great inventor Bredda of the First Age and is given a small stone fragment of Bredda's last will and testament (that perhaps Lady Alenya may understand). -Masa is given the "Small Miracle," which, when taken orally, may actually have the power to change destiny. -Akhol prys for further information on the names of Yuria, Bredda, Zoddus, the Eyes of the Weaver and Wyrm, and information on Denandsor. He is rewarded with many new leads and information on Zephyr. Akhol and Eallan both learn a little of the dark history of Zephyr, Yuria, and Ichijin. The circle boards the ship intent on departing, until Andoran absolutely insists they can't leave until he's fufilled his honorable word to Lady Soulsteel and been properly educated on Great Dragon etiquite. He promptly dissappears on his date and heartfeltly beseaches Soulsteel to once and for all either confide in him some desire to see the world beyond Fakharu's spire or declare her happiness in a life of servitude. She chooses to stay, only asking that he return some day, he gladdly agrees as he bids her farewell. Much to Anemone's chargin he sneaks in a kiss with Soulsteel (nothing French). Eallan and Masa manage to hunt down Vhen, who has been sneaking around the spire the past few days. Shinjiro assists Alenya setting up magical wards and blows her mind with his understanding of sorcery. Akhol (with a little motivational help from Amelie) is razing Shanty Town. |

Eallan calls forth the transforming powers of the Eye of Amorphia in the middle of Chiaroscuro, frightening off many spectators whose cries now change from Anathema to Demon. Akhol returns to see this "foolishness" just as a pair of Terestrials show up to deal with the Anathema scourge. Shinjiro and Masa manage to drag a battered and exhausted Anderyn into a side street to escape. Eallan flees to the water before the Terestrials can turn the battle into a catastrophe, drawing their attention away from the fleeing Masa and Shinjiro, half draggina and half carrying a beaten down Anderyn. Eallan flees. Eventually Eallan breaks into a residence and steals a set of commoner clothes so he can hide Amorphia. He returns to the scene of the battle to find his belongings undisturbed and the wieght of the day's events come crashing in on him, forcing him to rest there. Akhol is unssuccessful at trying to reach his Chiaroscuro residence discreetly, so he detours and treats Akiko to lunch nearby. Shortly they try again and Akiko is surpised and intrigued at Akhol's discoveries. Akiko suggests it might be a key to something. Anderyn is introduced to Zephyr. Masa and Shinjiro come across Eallan who helps them track down Amelie, taking advantage of the locals. Some jade richer, the four flee back to Anderyn's hiding place to find Zephyr and he getting along marvelously. Zephyr reveals that the Realm prescence in Chiaroscuro is an act of the Wyld Hunt seaching for an anathema. Zephyr takes Anderyn, Masa, and Amelie to find a way out of town before all hell breaks loose. Eallan and Shinjiro set out to find Akhol before he can break hell loose. They mysteriously loose his trail. Zephyr, taking the children across the city at an amazing speed, leaves the three of them temporarily in an alley. Masa and Anderyn hear something on the rooftops overhead, and Masa leaps up to investigate. Seeing a figure skitter down into an adjacent alley, he dismisses it as Vhen and returns to the others. Zephyr returns, having found their way out, and leads them back to meet the others. Akiko completes her work and screws Akhol on the cost of services. As they depart Akiko informs Akhol of a silent alarm in his residence, suggesting he leave town if it flahses. To Akhol's dismay they find Eallan waiting when they depart. Akiko bids a brief farewell and is gone. Akhol, Eallan, and Shinjiro head back to meet up with Zephyr and the kids. Akhol and Zephyr resume polite associations over alcohol and Zephyr leads everybody to the edge of town. Zephyr renders several guards unconcious, allowing ample opportunity for the wanted fugitives among the circle to escape. They all leave town at a spread pace, Akhol following last, a little upset to leave so soon. Just outside of town a beam of light errupts sending shockwaves of esscence through the party. An Exaltation. The Wyld Hunt wastes no time heading straight for the beacon of light. Shinjiro driven by Compassion cannot restist trying to help and darts off immediatly, Masa follows. Akhol needs no convincing (still hopeful of encountering Wolf) and the rest of the party is forced along. Blossom, recognizing Shinjiro, orders him away and proceeds to attack him. Nimble Shinjiro dodges. When Anderyn arrives he dons the Crown and orders Blossom to stand down. She can only blindly obey. Eallan once again dons the demon armor unneccissarilly, frightening Anderyn as he comes forth. Arriving first, Shinjiro descends into an excavation site littered with broken bodies, and finds an ancient throne. He soon discovers a dirty little slave girl burning with brilliant golden fire tossing the dead about like dolls. Communication proves futile, and affection proves dangerous as she clocks him and leaps outside. The girl is almost oblivious to the prescence of the circle, watching the incoming battalion. Anderyn and Masa futily try to convince her to come along with them, Anderyn again trying the crown. She activates the terrifiying apparation of glory that is the Dawn Caste anima banner, frigntening off half of the Realm soldiers, scaring Anderyn and Masa into finally departing, and sending Eallan over his Limit Break. Eallan emotionally shuts down and wanders off in a zombified state, Zephyr encourages him along. Akhol remains with the little girl and watches patiently as she begins to decimate the remaining Realm formation. Blossom engages the girl, but when Revena Cathak attempts to aid her Akhol monopolizes her attention. Seeing her troups massacred and her chances dwindling Blossom desperatly calls for Revena. As the girl sets on Blossom Revena tries again to assist and Akhol knocks her out with a single blow. The girl reduces Blossom's face to a bloody pulp amidst the cracked and cratered earth. She and Akhol exchange words, both feeling an ancient and deadly familiarity. She declares her right and intent to rule the world. Akhol takes issue. They engage in combat. Zephyr leads the shaken group away from the massacre and on toward Paragon. |

Zephyr leads the party away from the ensuing battle slowly at first,
waiting to see if Akhol will be following.
When the girl's blazing phoenix screaches and an incredible burst of essence erupts, Zephyr decides to leave. The circle (minus Akhol) continues to head South, leading a dazed and confused Eallan with them. By evening they arrive at a small town where Zephyr says they will be resting and gathering supplies and rides. Zephyr then dissappears as most of the group goes to enjoy a meal at Amelie's expense. Shinjiro breaks from the group and dines at a considerably shoddier establishment. They regroup to rest at a local inn. As Shinjiro rises the next morning he becomes aware of a strange rider coming into town and decides to pursue him. The rider turns out to be a Dynast of appearantly considerable breeding and treats Shinjiro to breakfast. Over their meal the Dynast (a V'Neef) claims he is searching for Vishan Sakura. Shinjiro leaks bits of information about his associations with her, unaware of her fate at the young girl's hands. As the V'Neef departs, Shinjiro regroups with the others to locate Zephyr and move on. |

The group rises and locates Zephyr to prepare for departure. Amelie
is convinced to finance the supply run.
Akhol happens upon the group while passing through the small town and joins them with the girl in tow. The entire group is shocked and disturbed more by her prescence than by the chains she's bound in. Akhol insists that she is coming with him and Zephyr leads them all to the stable to get their horses. Akhol concedes his horse to the girl (introduced as Phoenix) and says he'll walk. Under the influence of Zephyr's anima ability they cross the desert at an amazing pace. After about a week of travel and a number of one sided sparring matches between Masa and Eallan, Zephyr finally steps in and insists on training Eallan properly. They begin Eallan's training in the Fire Dragon Style martial arts by lighting Eallan on fire fore a number of turns. When he is extinguished, Zephyr performs a Wood Dragon healing art on him allowing him to recover enough to continue traveling by the next morning. From then on they continue training in the evenings. Akhol joins Zehpyr for a drink one evening after training and quietly inquires about the name "Yuria." Zephyr gags, drawing Eallo and Shinjiro's attention, and demands where Akhol heard such a name. Akhol tries to insist on his genuine curiosity of First Age lore about that circle, but Zephyr is adamant. Akhol admits he heard it last from Lord Fakharu, and Zephyr dismisses it as forgotten, going off to smoke. Eallan, who'd been eavesdropping, asks Akhol (now back with the Phoenix) what he knows about Yuria. Shinjiro joins them, and Phoenix grows quiet, listening with unnusual attentiveness. Akhol admits he knows Yuria's name in connection with the legendary Zoddus, but has found little else. Eallan asks about "Bredda," Akhol again admits to knowing that name of a great inventor. Eallan surmises that it was probably Bredda that crafted Akhol's sword as well as the Eye of Amorphia. They argue the value of digging up knowledge that has been so long forgotten. All three have enough circumstantial evidence to connect their Zephyr as the legendary Lord Zephyr. All three know the connection of Zephyr, Yuria, and Ichijin now, as well. They break group and Shinjiro goes to speak with Zephyr some distance off. He presses Zephyr on a few tender points about his "circle," particularly Ichijin. Zephyr is extremely pensive and insists on further clouding his mind with his drink. They set off again the next morning (their alcohol reserves exhausted) and shortly come to the firey threshold. Zephyr prepares a Wyld ward for the group before they cross as Eallan sets the horses to be left behind. Phoenix resists the notion of crossing the threshold and Akhol is forced to grapple her into submission. She attends the circle as Zephyr's spell is cast earning her first encounter with genuine magic. The land grows harsher and the creatures more fearsome as they continue south toward the burning horizon. |

The trek South becomes more and more umbearable to all but Akhol, appearantly.
After a day and a half of travel Amelie finally collapses, forcing Masa to carry her as they continue. Thought is given to setting up camp to rest, but in these dire conditions it remains just speculation. Eallan and Shinjiro come to realize that the party is being followed by creatures unknown. The children finally need to rest and it is decided that a camp should be made that they might also have a defendable position should their pursuers decide to strike. The Phoenix becomes even more paranoid when she learns of their pursuit, speculating on Fey creatures. Akhol keeps watch as the rest settle in for some rest. Shinjiro rises after a few hours, unable to remain idle while being stalked. Masa rises after not too much longer. Much to Masa's surprise, he reflexively thwarts the first arrow the circle's assailants set loose. All but Amelie are quickly roused. Akhol, Masa, and Phoenix take up a defensive position around Zephyr as he increases the radius of his group defense against the Wyld. Shinjiro takes an offensive position, turning the tables by stalking the stalkers. Eallan serves as Anderyn's eyes, pointing out targets for his essence guided arrows to pursue. Three Wyld creatures are discovered assaulting the group and Shinjiro engages the one attaking hand-to-hand. Eallan points out a target for Anderyn then dons his demon armor to be able to fight the one approaching Masa. Between Shinjiro, Masa, and Eallan, the first assailant is dispatched quickly after dealing Masa minor damage. Opposite of Zephyr, Akhol and Phoenix deal with a much more cautios attacker assailing Zephyr with arrows. Their deflections of the missiles is imperfect and two manage to strike, though at least dealing less damage. Phoenix summons upon her her ancient armor and gauntlets as she charges forth to face the attacker. Anderyn is successful in keeping his target preoccupied until Eallan jumps in and once more calls upon the power of his demon armor to kill the creature instantly. Phoenix engages her target whose weapon becomes fastened to her armor and heats when he tries to strike. Now with a visible target, Akhol steps forward and slays the fey creature quickly. As the battle ends the Eye of Amorphia and the Eye of the Wyld begin exerting their will once again. Eallan's demonic armor once again consumes him and assumes control. Akhol seems displeased. |

Akhol begins burning essence to fuel his defensive charms, preparing
for Amorphia's strike.
Eallan begins desperatly spending essence to deprive Amorphia of it's fuel. Shinjiro, Masa, and Anderyn regroup around the injured Zephyr and discover Amelie has grown very ill. Akhol takes up a defensive position between the demon armor and the rest of the group and waits. Eallan finally manages to purge enough essence and gather enough will to subdue the raging armor. Still hearing the whine of the Eye of the Wyld, Akhol is unwilling to let Eallan near the rest of the group. Shinjiro and Masa use most of the remaining water to try and bring down Amelie's fever. Zephyr's arrow wounds are treated simply and he tells the group he'll be "getting some rest." Shinjiro and Masa decide to push for a run as far South as the group can make it, or die trying. Masa gathers up Amelie, Akhol gathers Zephyr, and they are off. They eventually come upon a Wyld "city" and Anderyn is pushed forward to do his Eclipse thing. Being on valid "business" they are allowed passage to the Great Dragon's Emissary's manse. Zephyr is disturbed to find Alzeyna has replaced Zadd during his "banishment" from their courts. He is forced to leave the group to their own devices, wishes them well and departs. Alzeyna greats the group and encourages them to make themselves at home, her little, black servants will serve. The servants take Amelie away for medical treatment. Akhol and the Phoenix wander toward the dining hall and explore several ancient works of art and war. Eallan goes to change his destroyed clothes and wanders the upper halls, exploring the manse. Shinjiro follows Masa as he explores the shrines of the ancient gods and they discuss their experience as exalts. After the Phoenix's first experience "dining," the entire group is called to dinner with Alzeyna. Alzeyna inquires about their quest for the dragon's audience and about each exalt in general. All are reluctant to answer in whole. Alzeyna's annoyance begins to show more as she summons her missing servant, Vaj/Nayna. Her treatment of the servant girl, Nayna is unpleasant, irritating many of the group before her. Akhol rises and gathers Phoenix in an attempt to remove the servant girl and someone who shouldn't be involved in much of the talk about a power of world conquest. Nayna, unfortunately, is quickly called back. After a short grappling match, Akhol leaves Phoenix to return to the dining hall. Tensions are obviously high. Eallan offers a performance, to distract himself and others and is awarded the "Lunar Whistle," as a gift. Unfortunately, the distraction wasn't enough for Anderyn and he challenges Alzeyna's rights over Nayna. Angered, Alzeyna dares him to act, and he does, readying an arrow for her head. Akhol attempts to still his show with a thrown knife, but fails. Shinjiro tries parry the arrow in flight, but against Anderyn's magic, he also fails. Eallan moved to use his demon armor to block the arrow, but was caught off guard, and failed. Alzeyna incinerated the missile in mid-flight and emolated Anderyn's remaining ammunition. Anderyn is led to his chambers to retire for the evening. He can only do as she says. Dinner comes to an abrupt and unpleasant end. The group departs to let tempers cool and seek the missing. Akhol comes upon Phoenix, once again caught in ancient dreams of war in the armory, and they once again, talk some shit. Akhol only earning more of her wrath by calling her foolish. Shinjiro and Eallan attempt to find Zephyr, but aren't able to leave the manse, and know not how to summon. They all return to the dining hall where Alzeyna still seems to be fuming. Akhol tells the others to depart, enters and closes the door behind him. He speaks with Alzeyna and is reassured that Anderyn hasn't been roasted. She tells him things will be settled when Zephyr gets there and he leaves her where she is. The group splits up to further explore or retire. Akhol ends up leading Masa and Shinjiro to one of the manse's studies where he requests a few texts about First Age history and settles in for the evening. |

Eallan sneaks off to try his luck having a word with Alzeyna then wandering
into the study to read for hours.
Akhol asks Shinjiro to join him for a brief walk to question him about his work as an assassin. Shinjiro assures Akhol that should anything happen to him, he'll "take care" of Phoenix. They part as Akhol and the Phoenix meet up again. Akhol, once again, probing her for signs of humanity. Phoenix concedes that "she" is always in her head, speaking to her and commenting on him and the others. Once more they part on frustrated terms. Akhol is shortly summoned to the dining hall. Eallan and Masa are summoned to meet Zephyr upon his arrival. He isn't happy to hear about dinner. Zephyr advises that the only way they'll be able to meet the dragon now is to challenge and beat Alzeyna. They are summoned to the dining hall for another audience with Alzeyna. Zephyr's challenge is declined. Akhol arrives as the group is given a few moments of exposition about their feelings toward slavery/oppression. Alzeyna tells them it is time to leave. Eallan and Zephyr voice objections, beseaching her for an audience. Anderyn, obviously diheaveled, is brought back with Nayna accompanying him. Nayna finally reveals "Alzeyna" to be her puppent and tells them Anderyn has already seen the Fire Dragon. They are resupplied (with much liquor, too) as they depart. At Eallan's request, fodder is requested for the horses upon their return. There is some dispute about having Akhol carry some of the fodder as well. Upon recieving threats at knifepoint about the issue from Amelie, Akhol claims her dagger as payment for carrying her share, and does. He also ends up with Amelie latched onto his leg trying to retrieve her weapon. After two days of travel they return to find two of what used to be horses remaining, completly Wyld tainted. They leave them and Zephyr performs a Terrestrial spell to "fly" them out of the Wyld areas. Shortly, at a convinient village, Akhol and Amelie stike a deal where she gets her dagger back if she'll buy the horses Eallan has selected and Akhol gets their money's worth of jade upon their resale. That night Masa is seen sneaking out the window and reveals to Shinjiro that he has been told "he must go." Amelie is understandably distraught over his departure the next morning. The group heads on north east. Passing through the mountains seperating the southern desert and eastern forests Eallan and Shinjiro realize they are in battled over territory and are being followed. Zephyr summons out the Wind Tribe. Toren, Kesh, and Jen reveal themselves and call Zephyr on a long overdue debt he owes them. Zephyr is unsuccessful in bluffing his way out, but an air of distrust is stirred between the two groups. The Wind Tribe makes camp in the valley where they were traveling, and the circle is effectively held hostage until Toren (the clan's leader) can come to a decision. The group is uneasy in general, but Akhol and the Phoenix are both growing visibly upset throughout the ordeal. They are invited to eat and rest by Jen (the clan's diplomat), though Akhol has begun wandering the encapment, incapable of being restrained, and is robbing bandits at random. The astute assassin he is, Shinjiro notes Jen's hidden crossbow. Kesh invites Jen to show it to he and Eallan. Jen does, and they take interest, meanwhile Kesh is taking strong interest in Phoenix. Kesh (obviously a skilled warrior) begins making attempts to be friendly with Phoenix. They are unsuccessful. Unable to discern who is Zephyr's pupil, Kesh attempts to pick a duel with Shinjiro. He is advised to seek out "the big guy," who in the meanwhile is keeping an eye on Zephyr and Toren and intimidating Toren's guards. Kesh and Akhol are properly introduced, and Kesh tries to make a deal for the possession Phoenix. He challenges Akhol to a duel. Akhol, surprisingly, is irritated by this, but agrees when Kesh assures him that win or lose, if he fights they'll be allowed to leave in the morning. To this, Akhol agrees. Jen is summoned to sacntify their wager using his Eclipse caste ability. He also performs a blood sorcery to allow the two of them to engage in mortal armed combat without fear of death. The entire camp is in an uproar, and most gather, and wager, on the impending battle. Kesh reveals his Dawn Caste mark as he begins furiously burning essence, jumping straight to a bonfire aura. Akhol does similar, but burns far less, barely revealing his caste mark to fuel his armor. Kesh immediatly launches attack after attack at Akhol burning furious amounts of essence in combos. Akhol takes a primarily defensive stance, deflecting blows and making counterstrikes. Kesh is proving to be a powerful and agile warrior making and landing many more hits than Akhol, but after only a few rounds Akhol bears but a few scratches to the bloody gashes Kesh has taken. to be continued... |

Kesh assumes a defensive position too late in the game and his guard is broken by Akhol's final strike. The battle sorcery ends with an dramatic freeze frame as Kesh is hurled unconcious across the arena. Jen explains that the mark appearing above one of Kesh's rapidly healing wounds represents Akhol, for now. Still irrate, Akhol and Jen go to see Toren and after mild dispute the party is set free to depart. Finding the unconcious Kesh laid out on a table and in no condition to pay up, Akhol releives him of almost all his personal belongings save for the ragged clothes off his back. The party departs. Within three days they arrive at the edge of the southeastern woodlands and begin trudging through it's dangers. Upon entering the woodlands Akhol, Amelie, Shinjiro, and Zephyr are assaulted by flying paper birds. The birds are enchanted messages bearing tiny gifts from Mau Long, the twilight invovled in the Star of Infinity saga. Anderyn, ever curious, and anxious to try out the returning magic, is given Akhol's letter to play with. Anderyn proceeds to delve the forest for all it's mysteries with his new stick of wonder. He also takes his first tree climbing lesson from Amelie, who is in much higher spirits until Anderyn brings up life experience stories with her, and particularly presses the point of Masa being her only "friend." That evening (16)Eallan gathers Akhol and Shinjiro to continue their discussion about "Lord Zephyr" and Yuria. Akhol is initially unwilling to share further with Eallan without some show of reciprication, but upon Eallan's pressing interest in Akhol's encounter on the Isle of Broken Masks, he reveals what he saw: the dark figure that Eallan himself claims he has long since known as "Yuria," a creature of death seaking one called "Zehpyr." Akhol withdraws from the camp dissappearing inot the jungle as Eallan and Shinjiro continue to speculate on Zephyr's connections and the idea of the mighty Yuria returning to this world as a deathlord. The next evening (17) the three history buffs are all preoccupied as Anderyn begins to finally edge himself a little closer to the now disturbingly sullen Phoenix. Though still quite menacing, she actually speaks to him. Anderyn then approaches Akhol to learn more about her and is quickly distracted and fascinated by Akhol's suggestion that he and Phoenix are both being influenced by visions of their previous Solar lives. Akhol shares a little of the "history" of the world with him and admonishes him not to share this knowledge or that of their present Search for the Lost City with Phoenix. Anderyn reluctantly agrees. Later that evening, after nightfall, Akhol awakens Zephyr and draws him shortly out of camp before he brings up the name of Yuria once more. Once again, Zephyr gags, and tries to dismiss the subject as forgotten. This time Akhol is adamant, heated words are exchanged and an arguement ensues drawing the attention of the every Aware Eallan and Shinjiro. Akhol's temper is rewarded with Zephyr's tyrade about the fate of the Solar, and in fact the entire world. He shares his memories and fears of what the Solars' might accomplishes and his intent in finding Enoch. He also recalls Yuria as a walking embodiment of Honor and Devotion and Zoddus as one of Greed. He curses at all three of them for their rashness and the dark path they seem to yet be leading the world down. He also looks Akhol in the eye and says he has no wish to ever meet Zoddus again before settling back down for the night with his drink to help him forget his own anger. The three are again left alone to ponder. The NEXT evening (18) Anderyn returns to inquire more about Akhol's unusual knowledge of ancient history. They get side tracked by a discussion over the validity of reading books versus speaking to people before they are further inerupted by a scream somewhere off in the nearby woods. The camp breaks and rushes forth. Shinjiro, being a ninja, arrives first to find a congragation of Wyld Barbarians performing some form of occult ritual on a beautiful maiden they have crucified to a tree. He realizes that her screams seem to be more than a little played up and tries to remain unnoticed. Unfortunately... Akhol bursts through the trees shortly after him nearly knocking him off his feet and immediatly launches his sword to sever the tree binding the woman whose screams become genuine as it collapses backwards. They exchange familiar words and he cuts her remaining bindings as he lays a royal smackdown on the now attacking barbarians. Shinjiro, flabbergasted at the entire situation, disperses the barbarian that slipped through Akhol's attack. Anderyn and Eallan team up to create an intimidating prescence to ward off any further attacks. The woman now steps forward and through a beautiful and sensous dance casts a spell, killing those remaining. She is introduced as Valis, indeed an aquaintance of Akhol, who is now taking physical measures to prevent Anderyn from falling into his flirtatiou nature. She admits to knowing of Shinjiro, at least by reputation. Valis reveals that she was attempting to seek audience with the Barbarians' "father," Korazh, to settle a land dispute, but when things got out of hand she was attempting to learn their sacrafice ritual before escaping. She is invited back to the camp for the evening and is assured she will be welcome to their company and protection so long as they are traveling in the same direction. Over a little meal she shares with Shinjiro and Eallan the book, "The White Treatise," which she tells them outlines a beginner's path to understanding sorcery, which they both have interest in. Eallan borrows the book. |
