While student teaching, the class I was assigned to made wonderful plasticine polar bear pictures !

These
plasticine bears are quite simple and inexpensive to create. For
this activity, you will need black bristol board, thick matte board (the
kind you use for framing pictures - this can be found at an art store or
you might be able to get a framing place to save you their scraps) and
plenty of plasticine! Plasticine colours needed are white and blue
- you may want 2 or 3 shades of blue foor those students who wish to blend
colours. By clicking the icon at the end of these instructions, you
will be able to print off a template of the polar bear. Alternatively,
some children may want to design their own polar bear. Using the
template (or your own design), trace the polar bear onto the matte.
This is a good time to draw something else in the picture that the child
wants, for example, the moon, and fill in the picture with plasticine.
When the picture is completed, paint it with a coat of protective glaze
(this item can be picked up at any craft store) and let it dry. Attach
the completed picture to a larger piece of black bristol board.
