| California Crossing 2004 --- The eastbound plan begins at the Amtrak Station in Oceanside. |
| Amtrak's Surfliner arrives Oceanside in March 2004. The train adventure ends, the road adventure begins. The route is eastbound to take advantage of the prevailing westerlies. Route 60 in CA has become a "great-big freeway," thus the route move to safer bicycling territory (I hope!). The ride east begins with a climb of 5,555 feet, sea level to Mt. Palomar. Then down to 213 feet below sea level at the Salton Sea and on through the desert to the Colorado River and AZ. |
