The 2004 New Mexico crossing will be entirely on Route 60, including a stretch down Interstate 25/Route 60. In New Mexico bicycles are allowed to ride Interstate shoulders in rural areas, as there is no other way—no parallel road. New Mexico elevation changes are impressive: Crossing the continental divide near Pie Town at 8,116 feet, then down to the Rio Grande, up to Mountainair and down to Texas. |
