Route 60 Memorial Ride Journals Friday, October 26, 2001 Cold Weather Escape Covington to Lexington — Michel Galand, chef and owner of MICHEL CAFÉ and French Restaurant, and a passionate bicyclist, pulled me over in Clifton Forge to talk about bicycles. Again I was on my way to the top of a mountain with Recumbent Red in the back of a pickup. Michel showed me some of his routes around these mountains where he rolls up thousands of miles a year. He advised me that, with fall tourist and parent’s weekend at W&L, there will be no room at the inn. After a beautiful ride into Lexington, I found he was telling the truth. With temperatures predicted in the twenties and snow on the horizon, no rooms to let and me with no winter camping gear, I rented a truck and hauled for home to prepare for the next segment. Good to be home with Kerry and friends, we celebrated at O’Toole’s this evening. |
