PLANET CREATION TABLES

© Daniel Henwood

The Macross Universe is immense and filled with a variety of planets. Some habitable by humans, some not.
Below you will find details on a variety of worlds for use in your Macross Campaign.

STEP 1: PLANET SIZE

01-25 Small: Equivalent to Mercury
26-75 Medium: Equivalent to Earth
76-95 Large: Equivalent to Neptune
96-00 Giant: Equivalent to Jupiter.

STEP 2: PLANETARY SATELLITES

Roll once for Small or Medium sized planets. Roll twice for Large or Giant sized planets (ignoring a roll of 81-90 on the second roll).
01-15 None
16-30 1 Moon/Satellite.
31-65 A Few Satellites (roll 1d4 for #)
66-80 Several Satellites (roll 1d4+3 for #)
81-90 Many (roll 2d6+4 for #)
91-00 Debris Ring (roll a 1d6, 1-4 thin debris ring, 5-6 dense debris ring)

STEP 3: LENGTH OF PLANETS DAY

This depends on two factors. 1) The size of the planet, 2) Chaotic variables that came into play when the planet obtained it's system of orbit.

The planetary day base starts out at 12 hours.
Small planets roll and additional 2d4 hours
Medium roll an additional 2d4+4 hours
Large roll 1d4x10+20
Giant roll 2d6x10+20

STEP 4: PLANETARY ATMOSPHERE

01-40 NONE! The planet is devoid of any sort of life supporting gases (and most likely any life)>
41-50 C02 (Carbon Dioxide) The planets atmosphere is compose primarily of carbon dioxide, which in the proper placement, can make the planet suitable for photosynthetic organisms.
51-60 Methane. Plain and simple the atmosphere only supports forms of life that live off the presence of methane.
61-70 02 (Oxygen). The atmosphere is compose primarily of 02. Making it suitable for human and most intelligent life as we know it.
71-80 Oxygen/Methane Combination This planet can sustain human life and methan dependant life. Both lifeform types will find it to be abit labored (fatigue rate is 50% faster).
81-90 Sulfur Dioxide Like the planet of Venus, this world's atmosphere is perfect for a mega-green house effect. If this roll is made, immediatly make the planet a desert world, because that's about the only thing that could result from this kinda atmosphere. Constant thunderstorms rage across the surface of the planet. Acid rain falls from the sky every 5d6 minutes lasting for 2d4x10 minutes. Doing 5d6 S.D.C. every minute one doesn't find shelter or protection. Mecha take 1d6 M.D. every 5 minutes in the rain. Temperature on this planet ranges around 900 degrees F (483 C). Even people in full Micron Power Armour or Space Suits won't last 10 minutes! Even in large destroids or Veritechs they can't withstand prolonged exposure to the massive temperatures, taking 2d6 M.D. for every minute exposed (the damage for the Acid rain and heat is cumulative!). These planets are immensely harsh and only the largest starships are immune to the extreme damage caused by the conditions of these "Death Worlds."
91-00 OTHER. The gas is some other type of gas other than the normalplanetery atmosphere types.

STEP 4: PLANETARY ECOLOGY

01-15 Desert Planet For what ever reasons, the planet is just a total desert with sparse mountainous regions. Very little life is likely to exist, most of it nocturnal or subterranean. Roll another percentile to determine the average daytime temperature. 01-50 Hot (High 110 F, Low 85 F), 51-00 (High 10 C, Low -5C).
16-30 Arctic Planet For what ever reasons, the planet is currently frozen over. Like the Desert planet life is sparse, and there are some mountainous regions. High -10 C, Low -50 C.
31-45 Volcanic Planet This planet is a constant hot bed of Tectonic Activity. Across the surface 1 Volcano erupts for 30 minutes every hour. Every 15 minutes there is a quake 4.5d6 on the Richter Scale occurs lasting 2d4 minutes. The planet is covered with mountains but any chance of life existing is nil (.001%). High 200 F, Low 150F.
46-60 Jungle Planet Due to the orbital posistion and atmospheric conditions the planet is a lush tropical one. NOTE: Ignore this roll if the planet has no atmosphere. High 90 F, Low 75 F.
61-75 Water World The planet is covered entirely (or almost) by water! There maybe one contienent and sparse island chains (GM's Call). Life underwater will be abundant. Humidity will be very high. High 75 F, Low 60 F. This world can only exist in a Oxygen Atmosphere world (or Oxygen/Methan Hybrid).
76-90 Mountainous Planet The planet at one time or another was plagued by large ammounts of tectonic activity (may have formerly been a Volcano Planet). Caves, large underground caverns, etc. will be abundant. Life will most likely be cave dwelling & nocturnal, although there will be creatures who fill niche's similiar to Mountain Lions & Goats, as well as birds of prey. Temperature varies with altitudes and area.
91-00 Varied Ecology The planets ecology varies from place to place like Earth. Most likely due to a faulty axis tilt. Life will most likely be abundant. Ignore this roll if no atmosphere is present.

(OPTIONAL)STEP 5: UNIQUE ASPECTS OF THE PLANET

The creator can roll on this table as many or as few times as he/she wants.
01-15 Young The planet is very young in comparison to some planets. 2d4x100 Earth Year.
16-30 Old The planet is quite old, it may only have a few more centuries of life left.
31-50 Faulty Axis The planet is tilted on it's axis, much like Earth. This can cause variances in ecology determined by area and severity of the tilt.
51-65 Eliptical Orbit The planet has an oval shaped orbit around the systems star.
66-80 Magnetic FieldThere is a magnetic field around the planet which disrups all electronic instruments but visuals (that means no radio, radar, & no guided missiles except reflex).
81-90 Meteor Storms The planet is regularly bombarded with meteor storms every 3D6 days.
91-99 Last Days The planet is in it's last days of life. The planet is suffering massive Earthquakes range from 8 to 10 on the Richter scale! The planet has approx 4d6+16 Earth days before it explodes.
00 Roll Twice Roll twice on this table, ignoring any double rolls, or rolls of 00.

(OPTIONAL)STEP 6: COLONY PLANET TYPE

The creator can roll on this table as many or as few times as he/she wants.
01-15 Mining The Planet has many resources worth mining, making it a valuable world. If it's run by the military there is a high chance that Space Dock construction yards will be orbiting overhead, utilizing the resources of the planet to build new UN Spacy vessels and fighters. Mining planets can be of any type of world, with any type of atmosphere.
16-30 Agriculture The world is a rich and fertile planet, excellent for growing the large amounts of food,(vegetable and animal) that the UNG Colony worlds require. Only the Jungle Planet, Water World(Marine Agriculture) and Varied Ecology planets, with oxygen atmospheres can be this type.
31-50 Colonization The planet was colonized and is set mainly for population purposes. It will have a large population and lots of facilities.
51-65 Trade/Commerce This planet is a centre for trade and commerce for all/most of the local colony worlds. Most planets of this type either start off as colonization planets and develop into trade & commerce centres or begin like them.
66-80 Military Only or predominantly military personnel inhabit this world. Normally this type of world consists of a UN outpost or military base.
81-90 Research Certain unique properies of the planet have made it perfect for research, be it military or civilian. .
91-99 Construction Military/Civilian construction plants dot the landscape and fill the orbit of this planet. If no mining is done here then a mining planet is probably near by, either in the same system or a nearby one.
00 Protoculture Ruins The planet is the site of Protoculture civilization ruins, and thus a treasure for researchers, archeologists and xenobiololanet Creation Tablegists.
