PORTUGUESE FIRE APPARATUS / APPLIANCES / VEHICLES
All fire vehicles in Portugal have been classified into common types by the National Fire Authority (SNB). Here are a few examples -
PSL - light pumper
PSM - medium pumper
PSP - heavy pumper
PSMTT - medium pumper with four wheel drive
AE30 - aerial ladder / 30 meters
PM - aerial platform
ASL - light rescue
AMS - ambulance with large cabin and advanced life support gear
AMT - basic ambulance
AC - fire chief's vehicle
ATP - heavy tanker/tender
PSE - pumper with special extinguishing agents
TPL - light staff carrier / van
--------------------
As an example, the identification mark of 851/ASLTT/01 indicates that the vehicle is the number 1 light four-wheel-drive rescue operated by fire department number 851 in Portugal.
RSB however, being the largest and more prestigiated FD in Portugal, is entitled to some "privileges" and does not always follow the standard denomination rules. Therefore some RSB rigs carry unusual (non-standardized) marks which have been used in Lisbon before the standardization procedures came into force.
