Leopard Geckos are one of the most tame and docile animals I have ever seen. They are one of the most common reptile pets now, and I love 'em. Scientific Name: The scientific name for the Leopard Gecko is Eublepharis Macularius. Eublepharis means "true eyelid" and Macularius means "spotted". Physical Description: Leopard Geckos are not Arboreal, meaning that they are not a climbing species. Instead, they are Terrestrial and "stick" to saying on the ground, though being capable of climbing slanted logs and sticks. Origination: Leopard geckos originated from Asia. More specifically Northern India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iran, and Iraq. Leopard Geckos were imported from Asia to North America until the 1970's when importation of lizards was banned. Although some lizards still seem to slip through customs. Size: Leopard Geckos attain their maximum size anywhere between 10 months and 14months of age. *Adult males will grow larger than the females attaining a length anywhere from 7 inches to 12 inches. *Adult females will range between 7 inches and 9 inches. *When they are first born the hatchlings range from 3 1/4 - 3 1/2inches. The first seven to ten months of a leopard geckos life is a very crucial time. As this is where most of their development takes place. On the right is an adult Leopard Gecko, about 2 years old (not exact). From the looks of the picture, I would say that it's a female (just guessing). Lifespan: 15-20 years in captivity Diet: Crickets, Wax Worms, Meal Worms, and Pinkies Water: Drink out of Water dish, and occasionally off of glass and plants when enclosure is misted. Other Lizards that You can Mix Them With: Leopard Geckos prefer to be alone, even without other Leopard Geckos, but I am still Researching... |
