    He was an art teacher in Amsterdam but soon became a fulltime and succesful painter. In 1901 he left Amsterdam and moved to Laren. He made several study trips to Spain (1910), Norway (1919), the South of France and the Basque Country (1920). From 1923 onwards he painted regularly with his American friends Anna and William Singer, who had bought a big mansion in Norway (Olden). In 1927 they held a joint exposition in Parijs at galery "Durand-Ruel". Jacob exhibited his work in Paris, Amsterdam and New York.
