PUNDA (Up) View in the Breedestraat (Broadway), the main road of Punda. Typical for the Punda area are the (open curved) galleries from the 2nd floor on. This gallery is still present in several older buildings. In the past big wooden doors opened up to the former (work) shops below. In the last 50 years they are transformed in contemporary shop-windows. (Down) View from the Wilhelminaplein into the Breedestraat. Behind the street front of some houses a second front gable can be spotted, which is caused by a 19th century fill-in of the former gallery in the front of the house. |
