My method - Fitting an "S" type fairing to a 1982 R65

I ordered all the parts I thought I needed after studying many "S" fairing pictures fitted to various bikes. I asked questions on many internet forums and have to thank John Stride (www.oocities.org/bmwbiker001/index.html) for helping with detailed descriptions and photos of his machine. I sourced the pattern fairing from Motorworks ( www.motorworks .co.uk) who also furnished me with a better screen than the pattern one offered.

I rubbed down the outside of the fairing as the moulding wasn't exactly the best in the world. I had to fill the odd pinhole using bodyfiller.

The inside of the fairing could best be described as rough (see above). I enlarged the indicator holes to allow the fitting of 19mm grommets. I then smoothed the inside of the moulding using Isopon P40 (which incorporates fibreglass)

Filling and smoothing

I then offerd the fairing up to the headlight bracket to have a look where the mountings should go. Oh dear! The stock holes were in the wrong place and I had to make them further forward. I then filled the old holes in with fibreglass and filler and rubbed them down. What a pain.
