RESURRECTION OF THE DALEKS

For some of these reviews, I've attempted to provide a brief summary of the story's plot before starting the review proper. I considered it at this point, before deciding that such an idea would not only be pointless, but also, to put it bluntly, impossible. A summary of the plot of "Resurrection" would either entail a near line by line recital, or the simple description: Lots of people and things kill lots of other people and things. Alternatively, watch "Earthshock" and imagine it with Daleks, but without the humour, good dialogue, or originality.

"Resurrection of the Daleks" is a story almost without humour, and what jokes there are are either appallingly flat, badly acted, or stolen from other films (notably "Alien"). This wouldn't matter if it were a serious, dark, intellectual piece of science fiction. It isn't. There's no deep meaning or subtext here, just a lot of supremely unlikeable military people running around in "Thunderbirds" costumes and killing people, before themselves dying horribly. It isn't clever, and it isn't funny. Presumably it's trying to be grim, gritty, and adult. Unfortunately it comes across as peurile and unpleasant. Frankly, I'm not surprised Tegan decided she'd had enough.
