ME the one in the middle. ![]() I worked as a soundman at the BBC for nearly 30 years until retiring early in 1999 (being made redundant). One of the joys of being part of a 'film' crew is that I got to travel a fair bit and see quite a lot of the world. One of the programmes I worked on was a series on Geology, volcanoes in particluar, and seeing my first volcanic eruption was absolutely stunning, and something I shall never forget.. I used to take my film camera with me everywhere, but have since gone digital. I'm now on my third digital camera - a Nikon CP990. This camera is proof indeed that digital cameras aren't too far off the quality of film (well 35mm at least). The picture above was transferred from a 35mm slide using the macro mode of the camera and a slide viewer. For more info on slide to digital, click here. But you can go to. http://www.informatik.tu-muenchen.de/~atterer/acorn.html for a mein of information about Acorn computers :o) I bought my first computer way back in 1979, a Tangerine (well there were Apples, Apricots and Oranges about at that time!), which had a whole 1KB of memory, of which 400 bytes were reserved for the screen! After many upgrades during which time I had learnt BASIC and 6502 machine code, I eventually sold it and bought a Commodore PET in 1981. It was in 1984 when a friend lent me his BBC micro while he was on holiday, that I saw how user friendly the BBC was. It was sad to give the BBC back at the end of the two weeks, but within the month I has my very own BBC model B. Then came the Archimedes 310, 410 and then the RiscPC 600, followed by the 700 in 1994 which I am still using. How many PC users can say that? I have since upgraded to a 128MB Kinetic card and a Viewfinder, and am as I type running RISCOS 4.27 with a screen of 1800 x1400 at 16million colours (75Hz). I recentlycame across an old Archive Magazine, issue 3 No.5 dated February 1990, in which I wrote an article which converted BASIC Shell-Metzner sort routine in ARM code.
