Will's Rock Climbing Page > Crags > Mt Arapiles | Last updated: May '04 |
The Details: I'm sure you'll have heard all about it, so I'll skip the general blurb and go straight to my handy tips: (a) don't be shocked by the amount of visible lichen, it's much better than it looks; (b) avoid the permanent residents when choosing a campsite, cause they're deliberately f***ing noisy and inconsiderate; (c) Lake Toolondo has good swimming; (d) keep some esoteric areas up your sleeve for those days when the nauseating crowds of bumblies get too much; and (e) devote at least 20% of your time to bouldering.
Access: 4-4.5hr drive from Melbourne and Adelaide, ~11hrs from Sydney. All routes are within a 2-15min walk. Accommodation, camp either at the Pines (close to climbs, fewer facilities), or at Lake Natimuk Camping Ground (nice lawns, hot showers, power), for much the same price.

Arapiles viewed from Mt Stapylton at sunset.
There are too many to include, but here are the ones I think are the most interesting.
Bureau of Meteorology Navigate to "Wimmera" - Horsham's weather is the closest.
Australian Maps Enter "Centenary Park Road" (with Victoria as the state).
Chockstone The best site on Victorian climbing.
Onsight Photography A few great shots.
Parks Victoria Park information, downloadable maps, etc.
Arapiles.net The best place for new route information, plus some bouldering info too.
TheCrag.com As always. Record your Arapiles ticks here, and see what everyone else is climbing.
