I've been accused of being the Gerber baby...but there's no truth to it.

Somewhere along the way, I let music take a back seat as I went on to major in fine art.  It was early in those college days that I met someone who was to become one of my very best friends for life..... a great buddy then and still one of my most highly valued friends.  We seemed to be in the same classes over and over, and tho we had very different styles, we encouraged each other... and engaged in a little friendly competition.  Tony and I ended up on opposite sides of the continent, but the friendship has never faltered and we've always stayed in touch.

Graduating with a fine arts degree was an almost guaranteed way to quickly become a starving artist.  My Illinois teaching credential wasn't worth the paper it was printed on once I stepped into California.   I'd recently married my college sweetheart, so since I wasn't employed, I followed him to Japan for a 6-month military tour of duty.

Silicon Valley was booming when we returned from overseas, and I landed right in the middle of it.  A simple temp job in the drafting department of an electronics company turned into a career as a draftsperson.  A couple little side jobs mushroomed into my own drafting and graphics service

Thirteen years later, into another marriage, and after the birth of my son, I closed the doors and moved from the Bay Area.  This time I landed in the medical device field...  intravascular ultrasound catheters.  (Too much information?)  Another ten years passed... and then I did something really crazy!  I took a job  back in the Bay Area and commuted 3 hours each way!

Now a single parent of a (then) 13 year old son, I spent more of my life on the freeway and in hotels than I cared for.  Life was a scheduling nightmare and I often raced down the highway at 5am.  I'd just sold my large dream home to move closer to the job, but at the last minute, I announced "I don't want to do this any more".  (Did I really say that???)

I hopped back into my car, popped in my favorite Warren Hill CD, picked up a triple non-fat mocha... and cruised the 3 hours home with the biggest smile on my face!  The very next day, my son and I moved into a lovely apartment and started a new life.

Was I nuts???

"For men, love is a thing apart, for women it is their whole existence."

If you're struggling to find something that ties all of these photos together...  with the exception of those noted, these are all my own personal photos...  taken in the past few months.  Practice... practice... practice!

The concept of men being from Mars and woman being from Venus is nothing new.

"It ever has been since time began,

And ever will be, till time lose breath,

That love is a mood - no more - to man,

And love to a woman is life or death."

-Ella Wheeler Wilcox  (1850-1919)

Since the September 11, 2001 tragedy, a candle has burned on my patio nightly.
That tragic week, there were candlelight marches and vigils... then the candles were blown out and everyone went back indoors.
Lost loved ones have not returned... the pain has not been forgotten... and those responsible are still at large.
Our lives have been changed.

It isn't over.
Until there is closure, we cannot forget...
and my candles will continue to burn.
