*Year 2010*

*A plane headed for LA Airport currently 30,000 feet above the Atlantic*

“Ow!” Exclaimed Buffy Summers as one of the heels on her shoes broke as she was walking down the first class cabin causing her to trip.

“Buffy!” Came the cold, smug, superior voice of Jill Gateman, the head flight attendant. “It is not airline policy for us the trip in front of the passengers.”

“But it wasn’t my fa…” Buffy began.

“Just take this to the passenger in seat 50B” Gill interrupted her , shoving an airline meal tray into her arms as she spoke. “ Hopefully that won’t be too challenging for you” She continued sarcastically.

“Bitch!” Buffy muttered under her breath as Jill stalked back down the cabin.

Buffy turned and began to walk towards the seat where she was to deliver the meal. The passenger turned out to be a grouchy old businessman.

“You watch what you’re doing there!” He said gruffly as she bent to put the tray down in front of him.

“Ok sire nothing to worry abou…” Before she could finish the sentence her broken heel caused her to rip and she spilled the contents of the tray into the man’s lap.

“You stupid girl!” he yelled

“Oh my God I am so sorry!” She started.

“Buffy!” Came a familiar and unwelcome voice.

“I’m sorry Jill it’s my heel it’s…”

“Go sit up in the cabin and get the rest of the meals ready if that is not too much of a challenge” Jill cut her off.

Buffy walked up the aisle red with embarrassment as everyone stared. She passed the rest of the flight in the crew’s cabin being given odd looks by the other crew members.

*LA, Buffy’s Apartment*

Buffy was sitting on the sofa watching crap on TV. She picked up the phone and dialled a number.

“Hello” Came Willow’s voice on the other end of the line.

“Hey Will its Buffy I was wondering if you wanna do something tomorrow.

“Uh sorry Buffy but I’m busy tomorrow” Willow replied.

“Well what about tomorrow?” Asked Buffy getting desperate.

“Look Buffy my calendar’s pretty full right now can I call you back?”

“Uh sure” Said Buffy dismally before hanging up.

She walked out of the living room, down the hallway and into her bedroom where she flopped down onto the bed and reflected her life since dropping out of College. Getting trained as a flight attendant thinking it was a dream job with a lot of travel, then finding out she was a glorified waitress when it was too late to drop out and go back to college, being put in the same crew as the deadly Jill Gateman. Her friendship with Willow had started cooling off almost as soon as she was out of college. Willow was now the managing director of IBM and was pulling away from Buffy’s friendship. She thought about when she had first rented this poky little apartment promising herself it would only be for a couple of months, that had been two years ago. And on top of it all there was her duty as the slayer making her job almost impossible not to mention forming new friendships among her work colleagues.

“God I wish I had never been born!” She said out loud

“That could be arranged” Said a voice

“What? Who’s there?” Said Buffy sitting bolt upright.

A shimmering white light appeared at the opposite end of the bed and then a man with grey skin and horns came into view.

“Who are you?” Demanded Buffy

“I’m Kristofoko, the wish demon” Replied the man.

“What do you want with me?” Said Buffy standing up. “You know I’m a slayer, I could kill you right now”

“Oh you wouldn’t want to do that” He replied. “I’m not evil I just grant wishes and if the wishes I grant cause evil things to happen then that is no concern of mine” He continued.

“And you want to make the world as if I had never been born?”

“If that’s what you want then yes, but I can’t see the world being better off without a fine lass like you but if it’s what you really want then first let me show you something”

“Show me what?” Asked Buffy now more curious than defensive.

“Just come with me” Said Kristofoko. With that he reached out and took her hand.

The room began to shimmer before Buffy’s eyes and she felt herself spinning round and round until everything went black. She awoke lying on a pavement slowly she stood up and looked around.

“Come with me” Said a familiar voice

She felt herself floating upwards until she reached an apartment window, the apartment was small, Willow was sitting at a table working alone.

“But Willow’s the managing director of a huge company she doesn’t live in a place like this!” Exclaimed Buffy incredulously.

“Without you Cordelia and her friends ridiculed her so much she lost any confidence she ever had and ended up stuck in the low ranks of the company” Replied Kristofoko. “Come girl. We have no time to linger there is much more to see” He continued

He took her hand and they began to fly high above the city until they gently floated down to a street in one of LA’s worst areas. A man was staggering around clutching a bottle of cheap cider.

“Help me! Help me!” He cried “I must find the slayer, she alone can stop them, the vampires they are coming they’re going to kill us all!”

“Oh my God Giles!” Cried Buffy running to him. Kristofoko held her back.

“It’s no use he can’t se you or hear you, you don’t exist here” He explained.

“But how did this happen?” She asked close to tears.

“Without you he had no slayer to train and lost his purpose in life” Said Kristofoko shaking his head. “Now let’s go we have one more person to see”

Ignoring her pleas to stay and help Giles he took her hand and they went to a graveyard where Kristofoko led her to an unmarked grave.

“Here lies the body of Xander Harris. Without you to help him stay on the tracks he took to drugs and drink to take his mind off his own failure.” Said Kristofoko.

Before Buffy could say anything she found herself back in her apartment.

“Gee that sure was enlightening” She said to herself. “Maybe I’ll stick around and do my time here anyway”
