After everything that he'd done. Everything that he or rather, Angelus had put her through, he still could not believe that she still loved him. But she did. This wonderful, beautiful siren who was asleep with her head resting on his shoulder loved and trusted him.

Earlier that evening, he'd brought her up to his favorite 'brooding' spot on the hill overlooking the town. It was far enough away that you no longerheard the cars and the lights were very faint. He'd packed a picnic for her and a blanket so they could lay back and watch the meteor shower. It didn'ttake long for her to fall asleep once they'd settled in to watch the show. Slaying, school and sleep were three things that just didn't go together. In the comfortable safety of his arms, she found the slumber that her body desperately craved.

It'd been several months since Willow and Giles had preformed the ritual that returned him from Hell. It had been a long and hard several months. His guilt over what he'd done while the demon was in control was overwhelming. The only thing that kept him going day after day was the woman at his side. Buffy. His Buffy.

He couldn't stop starring at her while she slept. She looked so peaceful, so serene. His heart swelled with love and for a brief moment he could let the guilt slip away. Surely this Goddess could absolve him of his sins. Surely in her arms he could be happy and forget the past that plagued him constantly. Surely their love would be stronger then the dark forces that they were constantly doing battle with. Surely she could bring him the peace that he so desperately craved.

She stirred gently in his arms, snuggled in closer and sighed deeply. The slightest smile tugging the corners of her mouth as she drifted back to sleep. Angel gently smoothed and stroked her hair. It was like the finest silk and flowed through his fingers like water. His heart ached with love for the woman who slept so trustingly at his side.

He wrapped his free arm around her and pulled her closer. He wished that they could just stay like this forever. Having her by his side made him feel human, like a real man. It made him forget about the monster that he was. The evil that lurked inside him just below the surface. The evil that he would, without a second thought, walk into the sun to keep it from ever hurting her again. But tonight with her here in his arms, he would push those thoughts away. Tonight all he wanted to do was bask in her warmth, her beautiful essence. He wanted to sear this moment into his mind, so that he could recall it on those long, lonely nights when he was all alone. The times when she was gone and he had nothing but the demons from his past to keep him company.

"I love you too, baby" he replied as tears moistened his eyes, "I love you too".
