The Oak Tree

While out walking one day deep in the woods
I came across an old oak tree with such a sad look
As I got up closer I heard him sigh
When I stood next to him he started to cry
I sat down beneath him out of the sun
Looked up through his branches and asked the wise one
“Why do you cry so here deep in the woods?”
“What makes you unhappy old and wise one?”
I sat there and waited and then I heard
His heartbreaking answer word by word
“Our Mother Earth is crying her beauty is spoilt
By man and machine who always wants more”
“Her woodlands are cut down for houses and roads
The animals and plants have no where to grow”
“Her oceans polluted the fish will soon die
Can’t man see how this makes her cry?”
“She sends out her warnings with volcanoes and floods
But still he takes more of her precious blood”
“Her sky it is covered by concrete and stone
There is no safe haven for her wildlife to roam”
“One by one they’ll all slowly become extinct
All killed off by man in his greed to get rich”
“The birds while out flying dodge cables and masts
All put there by man in his never ending task”
As I sat there and listened I started to see
This world that we live in is not safe for animal or tree
