The Obligatory Article

Otherwise known as “Editor’s Note”

Or, “News and Updates”

It’s August.  Yeesh.  Only a tiny bit more summer vacation until school, that dreaded phantom, comes back to haunt us once more…

So, kiddos, let’s turn our minds elsewhere, shall we?  And why not Yn Nor’s latest issue?

I’d like to start off with a little announcement, which is that, with one article under his belt (a book review on The Amazing Maurice and his Educated Rodents), Deyna is resigning his position as book reviewer for Yn Nor.  Anyone who wants to wish him farewell may do so in the Editor’s Note topic on the forums, and I will forward the messages to him.

Other than that, though, it’s been a pretty normal month (well, as far as Yn Nor goes, that is).  Here’s a rundown on the articles in this issue:

We’re special.  We have two covers.  The reason for this is that only two people (myself and Ben Miff) sent in potential covers, and I couldn’t for the life of me decide between them.  So enjoy the goodness and very-different-ness that is Mr. Miff’s pixel art and my swirly Photoshop mess.

Northwind of Otters brings us a murder mystery set in the 1930’s, a tragic tale of one Annette Vonn.  Going with the traditional (but still hilarious) “You Know You’re Addicted to Redwall When…” list, Spring Brookring has an entertaining set of items that clearly show you’re addicted to the Redwall series.

Unfortunately, that’s it for fiction this month, as SolegaleMoon was unable to get in her two chapters of her Mynede fan-fic, due to getting a summer job (hey, yay her!).  But, as usual, there are other nice little articles designed to scare you with their utter madness…

Ben Miff’s latest installment of his series, Character Design, explains how to choose a religion for your character and how to tread softly on the dangerously thin line between coming up with an excellent religious character and offending people who in real life follow a certain faith.  Spring’s regular series, What’s In a Name, features names based on flora and fauna.  Vitora has contributed an article on sports in Redwall, as well as a piece on punctuation and how to use it properly.

Finally, Fidget’s usual SPAG poem instructs us on proper usage of conjunctions; and Cyra contributes an article regarding her site, the Furthermost Rubifavovitch (just don’t forget your dead fish).  For those who have read Ratha’s Creature, the article by Vitora called Ratha’s Power may be of interest, and even those who have not read Clare Bell’s masterpiece might enjoy it.

Okay, that’s it for articles.  Announcements now…

Um.  The Brink has officially been called off until another month—it seems I chose the worst possible time to start up, seeing as Operation: Sandstorm! and ROC:S3 were starting at the exact same time, and both of those obviously hold priority over anything the Golden Pen could come up with; we’re just too new right now.  So keep your applications, people—it will happen some time, just not right now.

RP First Aid begins as soon as I can contact the volunteers and create the board on the forum.  Those who want to sign up to participate in the RP First Aid must create a name on the forums and then contact me via PM so that I can put you into the correct member group; without this, you will be unable to post in the RP First Aid forums.

If you would like to contribute to Yn Nor, become a volunteer for the RP First Aid, or just contact me in general, send me email at willows_the_golden_pen@yahoo.com.  Otherwise, you can contact me on the forums (see link above).

Remember, to contribute a cover, send me your image without text.  This way I can save it for a later month if it isn’t chosen.

Well, have a good rest of the summer, folks.  Vitora out.
