The Obligatory Article

Otherwise known as “Editor’s Note”

Or, “News and Updates”

June is here, and school is going to be out this month—or is already out—for many of us.  What could be more exciting than that?!

*cough*  Reading this issue of Yn Nor…right?

Hehe.  Well, let’s see what’s on the menu this month…

Looks like we’ve got quite a diverse selection of writers this time around, although the topics are pretty much focused on the same area: writing.  Northwind of Otters uses the popular novel Eragon as an example of bad flow; Saarh Jevsa shows how to make un-cliché (is that a word?) characters; Ben Miff demonstrates how to put together a pack of equipment worthy of a good tale.  Also, Vitora illustrates motivation, the thrust of a story, and Cairn graces us with an extremely useful guide on how to role play successfully.  Finally, Ben Miff again contributes an article with a helpful handbook on creating runic languages.

But there’s more than just writing-related articles here.  Northwind of Otters gives us the poignant short story Winter, the tale of a struggling father otter.  There are two other stories as well: the next two chapters of SolaceMoon’s fan-fic (which still needs a title, by the way…any suggestions are still welcome); and Home, a non-Redwall short by Vitora.

Humor, too, is present in this issue.  Spring Brookring chips in with an entertaining pair of articles, one entitled “A Meeting of the Vermin Club” and the other her usual “What’s In a Name.”  Also, Fidget gives us yet another laugh-out-loud SPAG poem (and, of course, quite a comical set of examples at the end).

Just a few more announcements before I let you go—although, knowing some of my readers, you’ve probably already gone. Oh well.

The human survivor contest will have to be postponed for at least a month due to the fact that I am attempting to catch up on five science tests, a classic novel, several weeks’ worth of modern world history, and the rest of my C# course.  (Yeah, you can do that when you’re homeschooled…)  But, if I can get enough people interested, I may still follow through with it.  I’d like your comments, though…do you think that, with ROC:S3 about to start and Operation: Sandstorm! both going on right now, that it would still be wise to have yet another survivor contest going?  Email me at willows_the_golden_pen@yahoo.com with your opinions.

If you would like to contribute to Yn Nor—I’d be really grateful, doncha know—please send your submission or questions to the above email; you can also contact me on the forum.  Post your comments on this month’s article in the forum as well.

Finally, check out the staff pages, located on The Golden Pen’s main page.  Read all about our very interesting cast of writers—yes, you may regret it (having nightmares for a week is not exactly my idea of fun, but hey), but it’s worth it.

            Have a wonderful summer, everyone!
