The Elements

According to the ancient teachings, creation was brought about when the four basic elements of Earth, Air, Fire, and Water came together under the direction of Divivne Spirit. Also many ancient myths  speak of order comming out of chaos-- the taming of the elements. In Wicca the basic structure of the physical and etheric material is beleived to be composed of one or more of these Elements.      Earth is the property that binds and gives shape to things. Air is the property that liberates and stimulates. Fire is the property that animates and activates, and Water is the property that mutable and flexable. Just as everything else the elements have their bad sides... Earth is rigid; Air is flighty; Fire is destructive and Water is stagnant.     Also each element corresponds with a Zodiac sign--    Earth                Air                Fire                Water   Taurus              Gemini                Aries                   Cancer    Virgo                 Libra                  Leo                    Scorpio Capricorn            Aquarius           Sagittarius               Pisces      Here is a list of each elements' positive and negative attributes--

Water + Adaptable + Changeable + Compassionate - Melanchloly - Pessimistic - Stagnant
