1000 mile (1600 km) monthly service.

This service is to be carried out every 1000 miles (1600 km) or every month, whichever comes sooner. It is also a good idea to check these items before any long journeys.

Check and top up or adjust:

Engine oil

Battery fluid

Windscreen washer bottle

Brake fluid

Tyre pressures and condition

Replace lost battery fluid with distilled water

Use good quality screenwash, especially in cold weather

Use correct brake fluid (Green LHM in disc brake cars)

Tyre pressures usually 20 psi (front) and 26 psi (rear). Check for wear and cracking of sidewalls. Tyres left on the rear wheels often perish before wearing out.

Minimum tread (in UK) 1.6 mm.

Check operation of accessories:

Lights, horn, windscreen wipers and washers.

Check light bulbs and connections, which corrode, and stop lights from functioning properly, especially rear fog lights, tail lights and indicators. Problems with headlights on later (1987) cars in the UK can be due to the dim - dip headlight system.
