How to: overcome Addiction, be Blessed by God, and lead a quiet Peaceful Life. The following sections contain practical, every day things that you can do, or avoid doing, in order to free yoursef from pain and suffering. The key is to obey God's Commandments which encompass more than the Ten stated in Exodus, which are: Have no other gods before God, make no graven images, nor bow down to them, do not take the Lord's name in vain, remember the sabbath day and keep it Holy, honour your father and mother, thou shalt not kill (murder), thou shalt not commit adultery, thou shalt not steal, thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour (lie), and thou shalt not covet. The New Testament tells us if we do these things even in our hearts, we are sinning. Read on to find detailed do's and dont's. Thanks, Bob.

Addiction: to devote or surrender (oneself) to something habitually or obsessively:

So we see that to be addicted is something we do to ourselves or are taught(subconsciously or consciously), whether through weakness or by willful choice, so how do we get ourselves out. First of all, we have to recognize our addiction. Many addictions are obvious to us and the surrounding world(smoking, overeating, obsessive compulsive, violent outbursts, escape, sex, selfish ambition) but some like nostalgia and perfectionism are not. Resist the Devil and he will flee. Remember, the devil(or his cohorts) cannot read your mind, he can only guess your thoughts by your actions. So in the beginning stages of your recovery, it's best not to give your plans away or he will have an inside track on your resisting and really pour the coals on. This resisting dictates some effort on our part. If you are blessed with a powerful spirit, you may be able to accomplish some progress toward overcoming your particular addiction, but most of us will have to rely on God for help. We need to do this for the right reason. If we are just looking to be free of our addiction and not a relationship with God, we are on the wrong track(our will). If we are outside of Christ, all the cleaning up in our lives will be wasted anyway since, at death we will be separated. If we are in Christ, He will be moving us along the path of perfection which will necessitate our cooperation in ridding us of our crippling addictions. As a matter of fact, He will show us things we never knew that we were addicted to, and then we can address them. Believe it or not, God allows us to become addicted so as to grind us down, and cry out for help. Most never do. With God's power, any addiction can be overcome or God, in His mercy, may relieve us of our burden supernaturally.

The Retraining Program:

1. The client must understand the program and willingly participate, or it will fail.

2. Concentrating on each small success can help to build the client's determination to continue and the feeling of achievement.

3. The retraining program routine must be carried out consistently, or it will not work.

4. A habit is formed by performing a procedure over and over again, exactly the same way every time. Shortcuts break the pattern, confuse the client and weaken the habit.

5. The client must be helped to overcome setbacks and to try again.

6. The most important part of any retraining program is the client's cooperation.

7. Being positive, supportive, and understanding!

In the above program, we are the clients and God is the Doctor. This necessitates our faith in His existence and His having chosen us to be his sons and daughters in Christ. A good father would not betray us in our weaknesses,so why would the eternal Father do so. Be not afraid, only believe. The following are some of the withdrawal symptoms you will experience:

1.Craving to do what your trying not to do.

2.Tension.

3.Anxiety.

4.An inability to concentrate.

5.Irritability.

7.Tiredness.

8.Sleeplessness.

These symptoms diminish with time. You will be trying to do several things here: erase your previous bad habit (sometimes more than one at a time) while replacing it with a good habit, as well as not sliding backwards in areas you have gained ground in (as the Devil will try to get you to relapse in an area you have already conquered). Some days it might seem your taking on the whole gang of fallen angels, but fear not, God will deliver you. He will do for you what He has done for others. Don't run away or hide. Hang in there and reap the blessings of a pure heart and a sound mind. Love Bob.

Blessed by God, is it the way to go. Read on: Psalm 37:4; "Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart." So why do we feel that we are missing out on these blessings we see others obtain. Mabye it's because we want them for the wrong reasons. James 4:3; "Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts." In other words, we are more interested in pleasure than serving God. Matthew 6:33; "But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you." The problem is that we want stuff for the sake of having it. Just think of the tremendous freedom we would have if we didn't care what or how many possessions we had. Who's going to care in a hundred years what you did or had, but we will be glad we submitted to God. Not that He doesn't want us to have possessions. Matthew 6:31,32; "Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things." God rewards us with these things for being faithful not only to Him, but to others, especially those of our immediate families whose well being has been entrusted to us. Matthew 7:9,10,11; "Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone? Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent? If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?" After all, it is God who has given us every thing we have, including our bodies and abilities. It is silly to think that we have made us who we are. My brother-in-law once told me (which I thought silly at the time) that one of the questions God would ask us when we met Him, was "Did you enjoy the life that I gave you?" I had a smart answer, which I can't even remember, but his still sticks in my mind. Yes it is God that totally controls our situations, even though it's hard to comprehend. With that thought, let us submit to His expert hand, and be content with such things as we have (Hebrews 13:5; Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.). When it doesn't matter to us anymore if we have riches, then God can give them to us, without them destroying our relationship with Him. Let us pray for a simple life to the Glory of God, and be thankful for the things He has given us, both spiritual and physical. Let's not be afraid others in this world are going to get ahead of us while we submit to God, one of the devil's biggest lies. Matthew 6:2c; "Verily I say unto you, They have their reward." Trust GOD, be faithful, and the GOD of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob will bless you. Love Bob.

A Peaceful Life, the number one desire by almost everyone. Practical ideas on how to achieve a life free from sickness and aggravation.

Everyone seems to worry about the Big picture, and consequently, the little things in life can get overlooked. Wouldn't it be nice if someone could take care of the overall plan and let us concentrate on enjoying the small pleasures of living. Well, good news, as this is what God wants to do for us if we would let Him. As a matter of fact He is doing this already, but we just, for the most part, don't realize it. Because of the sin (rebellion against God) in our lives, He has to constantly correct us, as would any good father. This sometimes means letting bad things happen to us to get our attention. You could call it discpline. Eventually, if we continue to commit the same evil actions over and over, this discipline becomes more and more severe until we are permanently judged. If that doesn't make the hairs stand up on the back of your neck, your probably not inerested in an eternal life with God. For those of us who want to lead a peaceful life, the common sense thing would be to correct our behaviour to eliminate the pain. It's our attitude that is of primary importance here, which should be one of submission to God and His plan for our lives. For example, if you keep getting speeding tickets (yes, God put them thar speed limits on those highways to see if we would obey as well as keep us safe; I Peter 2:13,14; "Submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord's sake: whether it be to the king, as supreme; Or unto governors, as unto them that are sent by him for the punishment of evildoers, and for the praise of them that do well."), wouldn't it make sense to slow down and obey the law. Your thinking, how can something as small as obeying speed limits affect other areas of my life? I guarantee it does have something to do with the way God deals with you because it is an indication of your underlying disposition. When something bad (even stubbing your toe) happens, God is telling us to sit up and take notice. Is there something I should stop doing or is God telling us to just slow down. My motto is "when in doubt, maintain your position" (just keep doing the right thing until you get the green light and then move through the open door and proceed according to your knowledge of former situations and their outcomes). As a result, our Faith grows little by little. Remember, God has our well being in mind, and wants to bless us when we are ready (Psalm 115:13,14; He will bless them that fear the LORD, both small and great. The LORD shall increase you more and more, you and your children.). The key is doing things for the right reason, to please God our Father, not to do things just to please ourselves. After all, what does it matter if a man gain the whole world and lose his own soul (Mark 8:36). So, fear God, keep His commandments, obey the laws of the land, trust in God to deliver you, and be patient. God's not going to srike you down if you are seriously trying, even if you lose hope now and then and give up for the time being. Remember, there's always tommorrow. Rest and regain your strength, but maintain. So why do most people push the envelope, I mean try to get away with as much as they can without getting caught? Ever hear the quip, "He's got a speed demon"? Well that's pretty close to the truth. Not that he's possessed, but that he's not resisting that urge to go over the line, until he feels satisfied. Something like doing drugs, just a bit more to get the same buzz, until he (or she) gets caught and disciplined or worse. James 4:7b; "Resist the devil, and he will flee from you." Ephesians 6:12,13; "For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand." If you want to lead a peaceful life, you've got to stop doing wrong things and thinking wrong things, because they also lead to wrong doing and thus discipline. The devil knows God will punish you for sin and he likes to see you suffer, especially if your a child of God. Now resisting implies some effort on our part. For some more info on this, see my section on overcoming addiction. Ultimately, you need to seek His help. Ask for strength, mercy, direction, and obviously, a relationship with Him. All this takes time, so don't lose hope. Continue doing the right thing as He reveals it, and thank Him for everything. I Thessalonians 5:18; "In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you." God bless you, and may we all have victory. Love Bob.

Some everyday tips on walking the staight and narrow:

1; Use the crosswalk, stop at stop signs, wait for the walk sign, practice patience.

2; Follow your Bliss. This means doing the things that promote your well being, such as working at the kind of job you are suited for and enjoy. Don't be tempted to always quit when things are seemingly going bad, but hang in there and God will open and close the doors for you. Be good to yourself. Don't deny yourself the things that promote your happiness and contentment. Take care of yourself. You're no good to anyone if your burnt out. God loves you and delights in giving you good things just as any good father would.

3; Don't pass on the solid line.

4; Obey the speed limits. If you want to find out about persecution, just try to obey the speed limits. Remember, you are the salt of the land.

5; Use your ears more than your tonque.

6; Take the advice of Elders, and those in the know, under consideration(even your spouse) before you plunge ahead. God uses others to get the message through. When in doubt, maintain your course. Never the less, sometimes you have to take that leap of faith. When the only thing(all lights green) holding you back is fear, walk through the door. The exhilaration of having gone through the Red Sea is something else. The realization that God has done it is where the joy comes from. That's how faith is increased. Take care my Friend.

7; Don't judge others. We've all had our moments. Rather pray for those that abuse and be free.

8; If your not buying, don't go looking. Sure as shooting, when you start shopping, whether you really need it or not, your gonna end up buying, and possibly regretting.

8; Stay out of Night Clubs and Bars. What possible good could come of attending places like these.

9; When your feeling low, do something constructive, like doing a little cleaning or some other chore that needs doing. If you need some essentials, go buy them. Then reward yourself with a treat and go for a walk. Don't get too carried away.

10; Husbands, love your wives. Wives, submit to your husbands in the Lord. Children, obey your parents in the Lord. Your first commitment is to God, then your spouse, then your children, then your job, and then the world. God is able to work all these things together for His Glory.

11; Drive a new car. There is always one out there in your price range. That's one thing less to worry about, and you get to enjoy a blessing. Don't get carried away. Some people spend more on repairs than it would cost to drive a new car.

12; Plan for the future, live in the present, learn from the past. Some spend so much time worrying about the future or regretting(rehashing) the past that they miss the present, which is all we really have. Remember, we are human beings, not human doings. Be thankful and enjoy the time God has given you.

13; While your out walking, and there is a garbage can available, pick up the odd piece and chuck it in. It's good for the environment and will make you feel better about yourself. Don't get to carried away.

14; God is never in a panic, why should we be?

15; If it's not your garden, don't pick the weeds.

16; With God there is always hope, never give up, but give it to the Lord instead. In good time He will answer your situation and give you the plan.

17; Don't steal your neighbour's ideas to feather your own nest but rely on God to give you your piece of the pie.

18; If doing it brings you closer to God, do it. If doing it takes you away from God, resist. Be kind to yourself, forgive yourself, so you can love others. God has the best in store for us, when we behave, and obey.

19; Try not to lay around in bed in the morning. If it is time to get up, do so. The devil likes to attack you when your at your lowest, torturing you about so called mistakes that you have made, bringing up unresolved conflicts, or visiting you with negative feelings to keep you down. It's better to get up and face the day. On the other hand, if you wake up in the middle of the night or before it's time to get up, God probably wants to talk to you about things. Be honest, open, and truthful with Him. He wants to get things in the open, clearing up things that have been bothering you, clarifing decisions that have to be made or have been made. Ask and ye shall receive. Peace and joy in the Holy Spirit and a quiet peaceful life are God's ultimate purpose for your life, so why not talk to you when the world's at it's quietest. Remember, nothing bad can happen to a child of God as all things work together for good to them that love God. Be patient, Trust God, He loves you.

20; I find that the devil also likes to attack me when I have made a controversial decision which I am trying to resolve or am in the process of making a major life altering decision(ie. buying a car). Even though I think that I have these things straight in my mind, he comes at me when I am busy, especially when other people are involved. His plan is to destroy my peace of mind so that relationships will be affected and work will suffer. It is best to concentrate on the job and the situation at hand than to continually rehash it, trying to either affirm your first decision or come to a new one. Practice to leave that to a later time when you are free from other commitments and you will find that these attacks will diminish. You certainly can't change the past, and if your unsure about what to do next, time is usually the best cure in making that decision.

21; Don't replace one lust for another. Believe me, you can live without it. Keep in mind who you are(a child of God), and where you are going(heaven). Looking forward to the day we meet Christ(our Brother) will keep you in perspective of daily activities and needs.

22; The farther you get from an event, situation, or happening, the less memory you have of it. This opens the door for attack from the devil as he uses your incomplete recall against you. He wants you to worry needlessly. Several options are available. The best plan of action is to do nothing as this will strengthen you. As he cannot read your mind, one of his only indications is the action you take from his tauntings. If you can control yourself, other actions that you can take are to: a; Reconcile(when it is a person or persons invovled) even though you probably don't have to, or b; Check the situation out once for safety reasons(if you're always going back to check things like doors or water taps) and then walk away. Remember, the more you resist his temptations, the stronger you become. Always err on the side of safety and love.

23; Hang in there brother.

24; When we are riding high and things have been working like clock work, we tend to forget that God is the master weaver and the author and finisher of our faith. This is usually when He lets the devil attack our faith(as it is usually only a matter of doubt as God is not out to destroy us)to jolt us back to reality. Say you have succumbed to doubt in front of someone(especially a loved one) and are trying to analyze the situation or justify your actions(the devil is usually telling you that you've do it now and all your good works and example are down the drain), I find the best course of action is to dummy up and carry on as if nothing had happened, instead of babbling on about it, thus further adding insult to injury. There will be plenty of time later to talk to God about it when your alone(Pride you'll find is usually the culprit. There is a fine line between faith and arrogance). A simple "Sorry" and "Thank you" should suffice. Remember, no matter what happens, nothing could've been added and nothing could've been left out to make things better(don't "What If" yourself to death). God did it perfect the first time. This knowledge will allow you to go on while the doubts are flying. God's purpose is to correct you and establish you for greater things, so be prepared. Don't hang on to life too tight, as God shows His strength through the weak. Don't doubt, only believe! Thank you Jesus.
