Will Young sales update
part 345!
Will Young's debut single is set to sell well over 1m copies in its first week
of release according to chart experts. Will's double A-side single
Evergreen/Anything Is Possible has sold 800,000 copies to date but substantial
sales will be added on by Saturday shoppers buying up the single.
'By the end of Saturday I think we're looking at sales of 1.2m,' says HMV chart
expert Gennaro Castaldo.
Will's single sales have already exceeded the current record for first week
sales held by Band Aid's Do They Know It's Christmas? which sold 750,000 copies
in December 1984.
Castaldo also believes that Mother's Day on 10 March could generate another
800,000 sales next week bringing total sales for the single up to 2m in its
first two weeks of release. 'Typically a new release would tend to sell around
half of the first week's figure,' explains Castaldo, 'but this is a unique
case.'
