William To Be King Of Scots
PRINCE WILLIAM is a step closer to studying at a Scots university.
He failed to submit an application to attend Cambridge University, where his father studied, by the October 15 deadline.
And it is believed he is swithering between Edinburgh or St Andrews universities, where he feels he would get more privacy.
And it would delight the Queen who is keen to foster improved links with Scots with suggestions that Princess Anne will be given an enhanced role in Scotland, including taking up residence in the Palace of Holyroodhouse.
The 17-year-old prince is known to be attracted by Edinburgh's social scene, with its student population of almost 18,000. It already has an exclusive band of young aristocrats living there. Among them are Lord Lovat, the 22-year-old chief of the Clan Fraser doing business studies, and Lord Frederick Hervey, 20, Marquess of Bristol, also doing business studies .
St Andrews however boasts an array of golf ranges and other activities which may appeal to the keen sportsman along with its more tranquil setting.
The Queen held a meeting with the Royal Way Ahead group to discuss the monarchy's popularity in Scotland only last week.
That may prove a crucial factor when he makes his final choice of five universities for his college admission forms, which must be submitted by December 15.
Bristol, Durham and Loughborough universities are also thought to be under consideration, but it is understood the prince favours the idea of coming to Scotland.
He sits his A-level exams at Eton next summer for subjects which include art history, geography and English and would need at least three Bs for Edinburgh and two Bs and a C for St Andrews. |
