Two movies based on the Floating Outfit have been produced. Or at least they are packaged as two films on video. The credits and cast makeup seem to indicate these were packaged as a mini-series at one time. Corbin Bernsen is credited in Guns of Honor, for example, but does not appear until Trigger Fast.

Guns of Honor (1993-1994)

Based primarily on The Ysabel Kid, this film casts Christopher Atkins as Dusty Fog, and it's not a bad choice. He has a youthful look but manages to convey the toughness attributed to Dusty in the novels, and he even wears his pistols in cross-draw style. Todd Jenkins plays The Ysabel Kid with a simmering anger over the death of his father.   The action follows Dusty and The Kid into Mexico to bring back Bushrod Sheldon and his troops. Martin Sheen plays Ole Devil, bringing some of the Southern qualities he developed as General Lee in Getteysburg to the role. He differs from Ole Devil in the novels, riding along side Dusty rather than being paralyzed. Characters from later novels, most notably Belle Boyd, the Rebel Spy also appear.

Trigger Fast (1993-1994)

Characters from Guns of Honor continue in this film, which is fairly faithful to the Edson novel of the same name. Jurgen Prochnow, playing a member of Bushrod Sheldon's Mexican troop, returns home to work his farm. Corbin Bernsen is a crooked banker who won't allow that to happen. Dusty and The Kid hook up with Mark Counter to battle the bad guys once Prochnow's character is killed.

A brief page about Trigger Fast is available at the site Peakviewing Transcontinental.

Both Edson-based films are available on videotape, though Trigger Fast is priced for rental.

Anyone with information on the making of these films is invited to e-mail this site.

OTHER MEDIA

A few Edson novels have been procuced on audiotape, most notably a pair for the Book of the Road series, an early book-on-tape series.
