The Old Testament
1400 B.C. (Moses) to 420 B.C. (Malachi)
lThe Jews categorized the Scriptures as the Law, the Prophets, and the Writings. lThe Law was recognized as Scripture very early, perhaps as early as the time of David. lThe Prophets are the major portion of our Old Testament, composed of everything from Joshua to Malachi, with the exception of the Writings. These were accepted as Scripture by the Pharisees, but rejected by the Saducees. lThe Writings are Job, Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, and the Song of Solomon. They also were accepted by the Pharisees , but rejected by the Saducees.
