FEEDBACK FROM THE OPEN MEETING©
At the last meeting of the Association, which was an OPEN MEETING on Thursday 25th September in the Lettsom TA Hall, Vestry Road, two Brunswick Park Ward Councillors Ian Wingfield and Vicky Naish were present as well as Nick McLoughlin from the Pelican Neighbourhood Office.
The following issues were raised and discussed:
- Traffic Problems
We discussed trying to have a Yellow Hatched Junction Box at the junction of Wilson Road, Benhill Road and Camberwell Church Street. We and Cllr. Ian Wingfield have contacted 'Transport for London' about this. Cllr. Ian Wingfield has also contacted 'Southwark News' who sent a reporter: Steven Eighteen, to the junction on Friday 3rd October to photograph and interview us.
- Fly Tipping and Bulk Waste Clearance
We have tried to resolve this issue ourselves by providing skips for use by members of our T&RA, by publishing the telephone number for Bulk Collection regularly in Newsletters, on the notice boards in Lucas Gardens and on our website. We agreed to have the message translated into appropriate other languages by the Pelican Neighbourhood Office and publish it, arrange for regular skips, and publish information about alternative means of getting rid of bulk waste such as charities, shops who remove items when you buy a replacement from them, and Public Amenity Tips like Manor Place.
- Mobile Phone Mast
We agreed to wait for more information concerning the health hazards etc. of these installations when St Giles Church arranges a public meeting with Orange.
- Greener/Cleaner Camberwell (Southwark)
Cllr. Ian Wingfield agreed to find out more about the funding that has been secured for our area from this initiative and report back to us.
- Lucas Gardens
Cllr. Ian Wingfield agreed to continue to press the Council for the repairs to be made to the front gates of Lucas Gardens and other maintenance work, for example the trimming of trees along the back wall over hanging the gardens and houses of Linnel Road. We will also write again to the HEad of Parks about the large lump of concrete in the Children's Play Area, which should be removed. Also ask again for signs to show clearly which parts of Lucas Gardens are designated 'Dog Free'. In addition to signs we will ask for 'cattle grids' set into the ground in each gate way in to the 'Dog Free' area so if the gates are left open dogs cannot easily walk through.
- Motor Vehicles (Abandoned and For Sale)
Cllr. Ian Wingfield will let us have the number for untaxed cars so we can report them to the DVLA in Swansea. He will continue to press for the Camberwell Street Wardens to have an enlarged patrol area and for their responsibilities to be extended to include the motor vehicles being sold at the end of Dagmar Road.
- Recycling
Apparently a report is being written about extending the doorstep collection of recyclable items which will be presented to the Council in November or December. Meanwhile we will continue to encourage our members to recycle as much as possible in the sites provided in McNeil Road and in the Sainsbury's and Safeway carparks.
