REDUCE
Reduce waste, and rubbish, which is put in landfill sites, by choosing products with less packaging when you are out shopping. Reuse plastic shopping bags or use a reusable one. Recycle packaging as much as possible. (see below for more ideas) |

KITCHEN WASTE
You can turn your kitchen waste into rich fertiliser for your garden at the same time as cutting down the amount of rubbish you send to landfill. Compost kits are available to Southwark residents for just £10. They come with a compost bin, kitchen bin, handbook and access to a composting helpline. PACKAGING...
Polystrene and plastic trays can be used by schools and play groups for mixing paint. Reuse plastic bags when you go shopping or to line waste paper bins. Schools also like greetings cards, the insides of loo rolls, corks, lolly pop sticks and scraps of material, wool or ribbons for craft projects. The London Wildlife Garden Centre 28, Marsden Rd SE15 Tel. 020 7252 9186 will take flower pots, seed trays and plastic bottles. They are open Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays 10.30am to 4.30pm. Cardboard cannot be recylced via the new council BLUE BAGS (see above) but you can take it to a Recycling Centre:
