Wilton Pacers 2001 |
Saturday, May 19 The Wilton Pacers got off to a fabulous start of the season. We won 4 of the 5 matches played. Both Robin and Lisa won their singles matches 7-5 6-1 and 6-4 5-7 1-0 respectively. Dana and Gail fought hard and gave the Tartan A Doubles team a run for their money in the second set yet were defeated 1-6 4-6. The Tartan A Doubles team has played together for four years and it shows. They were a tough team. B & C Doubles were victorious. Diane Pierce and Kim Schock fought it out the full two hours. They were the lucky ones to use the infamous tie breaker rules and won 6-3 6-7 1-0. Cynthia and Martha won C Doubles 6-3 6-3. Congratulations to all !! |
Thursday, May 24 2-0 and going strong. Well girls, we did it again. We won 4 of the 5 matches against the Orange Slices. YAHOO !!!!! All the teams played fabulously. I enjoyed so much watching all five matches. Doris fought a tough battle in A singles to the bitter end using those tiebreaker rules and won 7-6 3-6 1-0. Robin's opponent in B singles didn't know what hit her. They were off the court in exactly one hour 6-2 6-0. Hilary and Debbie were superbly victorious in A Doubles 4-6 6-2 1-0. Dana and Elise "rocked some Orange Slice world" in B Doubles 6-4 6-3. They were very fun to watch. Susie and Ellen had very stiff competition in C Doubles. They gave them a very tough battle but to no avail. They were defeated 6-4 6-0. What a great match !! The socializing afterwards wasn't so bad either. Congratulations again !! |
Saturday, May 26, 2001 Three's a charm !! We defeated the Kings Highway Slicers 3 games to two. Rock on Pacers!! Both A & B singles won hands down. Lisa won A Singles 6-1 6-2. Kim won B Singles 6-2 6-3. Good work girls. Hilary and Debbie had a very tough but wonderful match against the Slicers A Doubles team. They were defeated in the last minutes in a close tiebreaker 7-5 6-7 0-1. Martha and Diane Pierce sweat it out in a second set tiebreaker that went to 15-13. They won 6-4 7-6. Gail and Jill made a valiant effort in C Doubles but were defeated 6-3 6-1. Everyone played beautifully and I have to say we played a lovely team. They were truly ladies. Thursday, May 31, 2001 Our first sweep!!! Hilary called it and she was right. How does it feel girls to "clean house"? All the matches were superbly victorious and all won in two sets. Jennifer won with authority, A singles, in her first match, 6-1 6-0. Debbie was also very authoritative on the B singles court winning 6-0 6-2. Who could ask for any 2 better singles players. Martha and Diane Wilson battled those Kings Highway lobs very nicely together and took A doubles 6-4 6-3. Hilary and Sarah had a tough first set but won it in a tiebreaker and went on to win the second set and B doubles 7-6 6-0. You go girls !!! Joyce and Elise also kicked some ?#@ and defeated their opponents 6-3 6-1. Way to go!! Keep it coming on strong!!! |
Thursday, June 8, 2001 We win some and we lose some -- Robin was so well paired with her opponent that one of their games ran 15 minutes. I think I counted a 27 ball rally. Her second set was not even complete. She lost 6-4 3-3. Kim Schock took her opponent down 6-3 6-4. What a wicked serve you have Kim!! Diane Wilson and Lisa Cartier gave it their all but were defeated 7-6 3-6 1-0. Hilary and Sarah crushed the Sure Shots 6-2 6-1 Joyce and Ellen had a very close first set and were defeated in the second set 7-5 6-3. Better luck next time girls. Overall the entire match was very close. We do have to play them again Saturday, June 23. |
Monday, June 11 Now comes the agony of defeat -- We played an incredibly tough team tonight. Doris gave her opponent a very tough match. She lost 7-5 6-2. Jennifer Englert was down 4-0 in the first set and came back to win the next 12 games straight and win B singles 6-4 6-0. Way to go Jennifer !! Diane Pierce and Martha Shannon played so hard but could not do anything against their awesome serves. They were defeated 6-2 6-1. Dana and Elise played a tough team that have been together 4 years and lost 6-0 6-3. Nice effort in the second set girls! Sarah and Gail really played nicely together they lost the first set 6-1, won the second set 6-4 and ended up losing the third set 6-2. Very nice try ladies! We'll get them next time. |
Thursday, June 14 Ladies, Ladies, Ladies WOW!! What a match - Doris Bender astounded her opponent with a 6-3 6-1 victory in A Singles. Robin Shepherd brought her opponent to the net and lobbed about 75 times in B Singles. She beat her like a rented mule 6-2 6-1. Jennifer Englert and Diane Wilson had a tough match against their opponents in A Doubles. They perservered but lost their match 6-3 6-2. Diane Pierce and Kim Schock - what can I say - it was like watching the French Open. They were down after the first set 6-2. Then came back to win the second set 7-5. The third set was tied at 2-2 at 9:50. They then proceeded to win the tiebreaker 7-5 with a killer shot by Diane. Well done Girls !! Jan Hersh and Susie Quaranta played fabulously together and gave their opponents a very competitive match. They lost 6-2 6-4. However, after this match we are back in first place by one point!!!! |
