Over the last three years SW Lakes Trust Ltd have undertaken exentensive upgrading of water sports facilities at Wimbleball. This now includes an improved clubhouse facility for the Sailing Club, Fly Fishing Club and New Boat house for Wimbleball Rowing Club, together with improved
opportunities for the general public to enjoy a range of water sports and water based activities. The new Rowing Club Boat House is located close to the lake near the Sailing Club, with access to pontoon along a level track.
Aside from tradional racing eights, fours and sculls , a number of training sculls are now also available for beginners.
In addition to WRC Club sessions, the Water Sports centre is manned for much much of the week by qualified water sport personnel from SW Lakes, capable of providing coaching in most water sports activities (Wind surfing, sailing, canoing etc. as well as rowing) together with manned safety launches and equipment for hire by the general public. This makes Wimbleball an ideal location for Training and Coaching Camps for other visiting Rowing Clubs - by arrangement with SW Lakes.
A new straight 2000m course has recently been laid out. with clear markers provided on the bank every 500 metres as shown in the pictures below. This course will be used in competition for the first time at WRC regatta in July 2009, to provide multilane racing over the full international regulation competion distanc; and in readiness for 2010 when Wimbleball will host the South Coast Rowing Association Championships.
