Now,  I would certainly be full of the ol' blarney if I tried to pass this off as my first encounter with the Wheel, so I won't! However, this nights show bears mention!

Bottom line: The Wheel rolled over the place like a steamroller!

Granted, it was St. Patty's day, granted the virtually capacity crowd was inebriated (annihilated) by midnight (one rambunctious dude tried to steal my beer!), but Loose Wheel had 'em dancin', cheerin' and basically screaming themselves hoarse!

As is usual for the Wheel, Rick (bass), Moe (drums) and Cyrus (rhythm guitar) laid down tight, pounding grooves for Phil Jr.'s (lead guitar and vocals) Stratocaster meanderings.

The band played on and the booze poured freely (I saw a Lepruchan doing Jello shots! Or at least I thought I did!), and as far as anyone could tell, those little imps known as "The Ides of March" made no appearance.

Anyways... the crowd, (an unlikely mix of Baby Boomers and Gen Xer's alike) had a great time and the bar owners were suprised at the show they got for their dough.

So, what does Loose Wheel do? How about a little of everything and alot that other bands don't do? We're talking everything from Henrix to Creed, Santana to Alice In Chains! They also have some great original material that goes over well anywhere.

If you're looking for a good time and a great band, go to where the Wheel rolls! If your a club owner or have an event for which you require the services of a lean, mean, rockin' machine, try Loose Wheel. Your customers will be glad you did and happy customers equal: cha-ching!

Welcome to my little corner of the universe where I get to discuss my adventures out and about in the Wisconsin Music scene.

In this edition of my little e-rag, I'd like to introduce you to a little four piece outfit called Loose Wheel. St. Patty's Day weekend I had the pleasure of seeing the guys tear down a place called O'Connor's Irish Spirits (206 Broadway, Wisconsin Dells).

Well, here I am again and this time it's all about the Gilson's/Michaels Landing Open Jam held on April 27th at Michaels Landing (2004 Cty Rd. Z, Friendship).

This was the first of an ongoing series of jams co-hosted by Gilson's and Michaels Landing, and all things considered it seems to have been a great idea and a great time for it.

Ofcourse, being the first it simply could not go entirely smoothly... seems there was a bit of a communication problem concerning the sound system which didn't show up until 11:00PM! Ouch!

Suprisingly though, this had little effect on the overall. To begin with, there were alot of people there waiting for the music to begin, and it was a suprise that most of them actually hung out rather than getting frustrated with the wait. Additionally, Pete Gilson broke up the wait with a bit of instrumental jamming that appeased the music hungry crowd until the PA arrived.

Once it was set up the fun started and most of the performances included Ol' Pete sittin' in and helpin' everyone out.

There were more bands or bands in the making than individual performers, but this was nice as the crowd got to preview some bands that'll be out and about this summer as the final pieces fall togethor.

As a networking instrument, the jam was a big success as a lot of musicians got to meet and a couple of bands picked up new players. Aside from the fun for the crowd, these events are largely for musician networking and in that regard it was great.

The next Gilson's/Michaels Jam is slated for  Friday May 25th, 2001 and with the first experience providing a little education the next is sure to go much more smoothly and  will undoubtedly be  a great time. Mark your calendars and pack your gear and come out jammin'!

In the mean time, remember, Michaels Landing has live music Saturday nights and Gilson's is still doing some great deals at  Pete's new Wisconsin Rapids Store, and don't forget  Pete's new store in Marshfield!
