Internship Program in Greece
WINPEACE, Women’s Initiative for Peace, offers a unique opportunity for undergraduate seniors or graduate students who are interested in the global goals and aims of WINPEACE  -- the advancement of women’s leadershiip in contemporary international relations; the economic and social betterment of women; the promotion of women’s rights. The WINPEACE internship program is for those students who wish to combine their academic study with practical application and experience.  WINPEACE welcomes student from throughout Greece and abroad who have course work, professional or personal experience, and career interests related to our programs. 

The non-paid internship takes place in Athens, Greece. 

Credits -- Students are urged to coordinate with the chairperson of their department of studies to receive academic credit for their internship through their university. Upon successful completion of the internship, WINPEACE will issue a certificate of completion to be distributed to the university for verification and for the student’s personal file.

Duration -- Interns are required to commit a minimum of 15 hours per week for at least three months (or one semester).  The internship can also be extended to six months (or two semesters). 
 

Responsibilities and Possibilities: Interns are expected to: 

  • Independently research and write brief reports on issues relevant to the concerns and initiatives of WINPEACE or those issues suggested by the internship coordinator;
  • Participate actively in at least one of the sub-committees – disarmament, conflict resolution, organizational, and public relations/funding;
  • Attend monthly WINPEACE/Greece meetings and record meeting minutes, and;
  • Maintain current office filing and copying.
Interns are invited to attend tri-annual joint meetings of WINPEACE Turkey and WINPEACE Greece that alternatively take place in each country.  (Note: Due to budgetary constraints, the cost of attending the joint meeting will not be provided.) If attending, during the meetings the intern will be responsible for taking the meeting minutes as well as assist in the coordinating efforts of WINPEACE Greece.

Eligibility -- Candidates should: 

  • Be fluent in English.  Knowledge of Greek and/or Turkish is helpful; 
  • Possess good writing and research skills, with basic computer skills being helpful;
  • Have keen interest in peace studies, human rights, women rights, and/or international relations, and; 
  • Be self-motivated professionals able to work with a sense of urgency and a sense of humor.
