The Winchester United travel soccer program is a unique youth player development program open to players in age groups U-11 through U-19. Open try-outs are offered on an individual team basis to players from all locales with focus on those players from the city of Winchester and Frederick, Clarke, and Warren Counties. Winchester United teams are members of the Winchester Youth Soccer Club/BRYSA.
Selection of team members is at the discretion of Jim Carden, Head Coach and Director of Winchester United, and his staff of qualified coaches. Selection will be based on skill level, appropriate to the given age group, and attitude of the player. No player will be discriminated against based on race, religion, or financial ability.
Try-outs are held on four scheduled days, and all players desiring consideration for membership on a team should plan to attend all dates. You will be notified by phone, if your child has or has not been selected for the team.
The Winchester United travel soccer program requires both a time and monetary commitment. To give you a better understanding of what may typically be involved in a season of play with the Winchester United program, we have outlined these commitments.
Practices
Practices will be held locally – normally two
times per week – approximately one and one-half hours each. Practices are
mandatory, as they are vital for individual player development and also for
development and cohesiveness of the team.
League Play
League games in the NCSL, ODSL, or WAGS are
scheduled primarily on Sundays, although there may be an occasional Saturday
game. Home games will be played on local fields and Away games will be played on
fields typically within 1½ hours drive from Winchester
Player’s Participation in Multiple Sports
Participation in
multiple organized sports during the season is discouraged. The physical and
time demands of the Winchester United program require a player’s commitment to
the sport and to the team for optimum development. Should your player desire to
participate in additional organized sports during the soccer season, please
discuss this with the coaching staff prior to the team’s selection.
Sportsmanship
The Winchester United program takes pride in
the sportsmanship of its players and spectators. While the coaches will help to
remind players of their responsibility to maintain composure and exhibit the
highest level of sportsmanship, it is of utmost importance that the players’
parents and siblings also show the same level of respect and sportsmanship to
all players, coaches, and officials. Positive support will help all of the
players and the Winchester United program.
Financial
There are various fees associated with
participation in the Winchester United program. These fees include, Coaches
Training, League, VYSA, Player Passes, Insurance, WYSC/BRYSA Administration,
Uniform, and Tournaments. In addition to these fees, each player will be
responsible for purchase of his/her own team shorts, T-shirt, and socks. These
fees and charges total approximately $400 per player each season. Payment plans
are available and will be discussed at a later date. Scholarships are also
available to any player requiring financial assistance. Scholarship requests
remain in strict confidence and should be directed to Jim Carden, Program
Director.
Thank you for your interest in the Winchester United.
