Chapter Four

After the show

Nikki went to JC’s room.

‘JC? Are you here? You were supposed to meet me after the show on the bus, but you didn’t and I wondered if everything was OK.’ She asked, walking in the room. She got no answer. She walked all the way into his hotel room, to find him on the bed with the phone to his ear, crying.

‘OK Mom, I’ll be there soon.’ He hung up the phone and walked into Nikki’s arms.

‘Oh God JC, what’s wrong?’ Nikki asked as JC cried on her shoulder. He started to calm down a little bit.

‘It’s Heather, sh-she was in a car accident. A drunk drive hit her car.’ He started to cry again. She tried to calm him down, but it wasn’t working.

‘I have to go to the hospital. Would you come with me so I’m not alone?’ JC asked.

‘Yeah sure. I’ll drive, so we’ll take my car.’ She didn’t what else to do. She couldn’t say no, so she went. Nikki was somewhat close to Heather; being her age and all.

At The Hospital

They both sat in the waiting room, Nikki sat half asleep with JC’s head in her lap. JC was asleep, tired from the concert he gave. Nikki was just asleep when she heard people run into Heather’s room. JC woke up wanting to run into her room and find out what was wrong, but he couldn’t. She saw the pain in his eyes and knew she could do nothing but tell him everything would be all right.

‘Nikki? She is going to be all right, isn’t she?’ JC asked her holding her tightly.

‘I don’t know JC, I really don’t know. I wish I could tell you that everything is going to be OK, but I don’t know the answer.’ Nikki had to tell the truth. She had no clue, she never had a brother or sister in a car crash.

‘Mr. Chasez? Heather Chasez’s brother right?’ The doctor asked.

‘Yes, why? What’s wrong? Why did all those people just run into her room?’ JC asked, his eyes watering once again.

‘Well it seems that Heather has slipped into a coma. We’re doing everything we can, but a coma can take time.’ The doctor said he was sorry, and left them.

The Next Day

‘Veronica, I’m calling Nikki now so calm down.’ Veronica was pacing in Mandy’s room, wondering where Nikki was.

Nikki’s cell phone rang at the hospital. She moved slightly, but not enough to wake up JC, who was once again asleep in her lap.

‘Hello---oh hey Mandy---I’m at the hospital with JC.’  Nikki whispered.

‘Why are at the hospital? Are you hurt? Is JC hurt? NIKKI TELL ME!’ Mandy asked, going crazy.

‘Well I’m fine and JC is. Well,  I don’t think you could say fine, but he’s OK. His sister was in a car crash, and he asked me to come to the hospital with him so he wasn’t alone, OK?’ Nikki answered. Mandy calmed down a little bit. After they hung up the phone, Nikki and JC were allowed to see Heather.

‘Oh God, look at you with all these needles in you and everything. Dammit why couldn’t it be me in the car and not you? Why you? You’re so young, don’t die on me.’ JC said walking into the room.

‘JC, she’s not going to die. You know she won’t. She’s too strong to just die like this.’ Nikki answered, walking up next to JC.

‘Nikki, I wish I could believe you. But you don’t know that.’ JC stood up and looked her in the eyes. When she looked in to his red and puffy eyes she saw all the pain he had.

‘Yes I do. When we were together, your sister told me how much she wanted to see you get married and have kids. And JC, the feeling you’re having about her dying and leaving you now are not helping her get better. You know this.’ Nikki stated.

‘I hope you’re right Nikki. I hope you’re right.’ JC cried.

‘I know I am. Why don’t we go back to the hotel for a little bit and get some sleep? We have been up all night, and need rest.’ Nikki suggested.

‘I guess so, but I don’t really want to leave her. But your right I do need some sleep.’ JC walked with Nikki to the car.

‘Nikki?’

‘Yeah?’

‘Thank you for staying with me.’

‘Of course.’ She said. JC kissed her lightly, and got in the car. Nikki stood there, shocked at what JC had just done.
